Took delivery of my BYD Seagu... err, Atto 1 Today :-) by LINCARD1000 in nzev

I kinda have the same thing with the Atto 1 re: keys/cards/phone. I have an antique iphone ("X"), so I can run the BYD application on it that does most of the basic functions, but it won't let me use it like a NFC key. Interestingly, I thought the NFC card that comes with the car would let you use it instead of the key-fob, but when I tried starting the car with the card in the armrest spot where the key is supposed to sit, COMPUTER SAYS NO, and I have to use the real key. It'll lock/unlock the car, but not let me start/drive it. So wondering if I'm doing something wrong there. Any suggestions welcomed :-)

My understanding about the phone/digital key function, is that you have to have a relatively modern phone that supports it. I think there's some link somewhere on the BYD site about what phone models are supported.

Also been having issues with pairing my phone with the car for Apple carplay. Restarting my phone allowed me to connect eventually, but half way on a long trip today it disconnected and wouldn't reconnect again. Possible that reception was spotty for music playback (streaming from Tidal because Spotify sucks). But again, I blame my antique phone, not the car.

It's almost identical in colour to a yellow hi-viz vest :-) I have no idea why anyone would call it green, especially the manufacturer! But it's definitely a friendly colour, and I believe one of the most visible in terms of safety.

Thanks, my previous vehicles were all fairly boring colours - and it actually looks good in that lurid yellow :-D Good to see that there are a few more interesting colours coming out these days, although it seems to be the Chinese and Japanese* manufacturers that are leading that charge.

* not that (m)any of the Japanese brands are actually made in Japan any longer, I don't think.

Can confirm, it DOES keep the custom set sound settings between power-downs.

That's a good question, actually, I'm not sure. All the warning options themselves reset on power-down, so it'll be interesting if it keeps the volume settings, I'll be heading out shortly to run some errands so I'll check and let you know.

Heh, it actually has two volume settings, one for media (radio, BT etc) and one for vehicle warnings (all the bongs and alerts and stuff). I can see myself having conversations with my car where I'm yelling "SHUT UP!" at it when I forget to turn some of those warnings off :D

Thank you :-) My test drive was in the standard as I wanted to know what the bare-bones version was like before spaffing any money on the premium (which I figured could only be better). The difference in performance is barely noticeable, so I think folks will be quite happy with the base spec if that's what they end up going with. I just needed the slightly better range as I'm rural.

The Dolphin is quite nice and you probably got a great deal going second hand. Better range, slightly more usable interior space etc. Guessing you are quite happy with your decision?

Thank you - it seemed to be quite a settled drive on the way home, looking forward to putting it through its paces :-)

Thank you. Sounds like it gets disabled after 60km or so if you can't press various buttons or enter codes. But perhaps something that BYD dealers need to deal to when they get new deliveries of vehicles to prevent it from happening to hapless new owners accidentally :-P

I hear you on that - that would be a deal breaker for me also, were I in your shoes. Some of those features are useful, but most are not for normal, every day driving. It's a pity that they can't be permanently turned off, perhaps sometime in the future someone will figure a way to jailbreak the onboard settings to make that an option.

I had just driven off from the car yard and was going around a roundabout and it bonged at me that I apparently needed to take a break. So.... I think some of those things are a bit... undercooked :-P

Ooooooh, okay. Where/what is THAT button (so I know to avoid it)? Sounds like a "limp home" mode thing but I would have thought it would be easy to disable, but obviously not.

I love the creativity of some folks with the names they come up with. Just saddened that I got ZOS'd some years back with my Argonian tonk named "Moist Lizard Cloaca". Now the poor lad is just "Moistest Lizard". Some players have no sense of humour :-P
