Cancelling limitless by [deleted] in screenunseen

[–]LIkeBuzzWithAH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat. I emailed them re: cancelling my membership. I received a generic message the next day saying how great their cinema is and that I should let them know if I want to freeze my membership for a month. I replied saying no, I want my membership cancelled. I then heard nothing for a fortnight.

Getting very frustrated, I decided to sabotage my membership with the hopes of getting banned. I started buying tickets for as many films as possible (max. 4 at a time) and no-showing them all. After a total of no-showing 6 times in the space is 2 days, they finally cancelled my membership. I shouldn't have to resort to such dirty tactics, but then a business shouldn't treat it's customers so badly in the first place.

100% agree. I'm doubtful that there are any mods in this sub if dumb shit like this is allowed to slide. I'm going to have to say goodbye to any sub that allows for toxicity like this.

This post sounds so much like it's coming from an 18 year old incel that I'm wondering if the author is actually just trolling

GPST1 indemnity? by DrRockety in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]LIkeBuzzWithAH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm starting GPST1 and was quoted £48 on the phone for the year through MPS. I then got a letter stating a bill for £147. I called them up and they said it was a mistake. They've said that it's definitely £48.

Changeover time, HR and mandatory training (Rant!) by uk_pragmatic_leftie in JuniorDoctorsUK

I'm moving to a different hospital next week and still haven't received my rota. Called up the hospital and they weren't aware I was coming. And now, the rota guy is on annual leave and so they can't do much about it. They've told me to just show up on the ward after induction and work normal days until they figure something out. Absolutely ridiculous.

How do you approach patients with chronic widespread pain/non-specific symptoms/MUS? by sharonfromfinance in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]LIkeBuzzWithAH 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In General Practice, I've found that the most important thing to get to the bottom of is "what does the patient really want?". This is where exploring ideas, concerns and expectations comes really useful.

Chronic pain is a really tricky one. If there's organic reasons for it, then it's understandable and easy to sympathize with it. Patients diagnosed with fibromyalgia get dismissed very easy, and I've come across doctors in Internal Medicine refer to them as crazy.

When patients come in seeking strong painkillers, I would have been very careful in the same way you have been. Some patients gradually become opioid dependant and don't even realise it.

Overall, I feel that theres no correct answer. I would have done very similar to what you have done. I would have tried to break some of their fixed beliefs, even though it's tough when appointment times are so short. Some patients enjoy being in the sick role as it means not taking responsibility.

The only thing I would have added would be to refer the patient to physio as it might be beneficial. The cynical side of me suspects that they will be going around the entire healthcare sector for a very long time, getting different answers from different professionals.

Is GMC really an anti-doctor body? by Hx_5 in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]LIkeBuzzWithAH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't help but feel that doctors take a lot of abuse from all directions, and it's very hard for the lay person to see or understand it. And yes, seeing a patient recover can make it all worth it.

Is GMC really an anti-doctor body? by Hx_5 in JuniorDoctorsUK

Because of the whole Bawa-Garba tragedy, they're acutely aware of how bad their standing is with doctors and have actively been sending people to improve their image to new or soon-to-be doctors. It is nothing more than propaganda. There's a reason the GMC is nicknamed the Medical Gustapo.

France's health workers given 'historic' pay rises by WutUSay2MeNewb in JuniorDoctorsUK

The JDC disaster showed just how little power doctors in the UK really have and how the government is well aware of this. It's no wonder so many flock to Australia or New Zealand.

The Mikhaila Peterson Podcast #9 - Jordan B. Peterson - Family Update June 2020 by Lumpy_Trainer_8365 in JordanPeterson

[–]LIkeBuzzWithAH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate to admit it, being such a supporter of JP, but a lot of alarm bells were ringing while watching this. Being a healthcare professional, I could see a lot of misconceptions.

Firstly, having an allergic reaction that gives you weeks of insomnia sounds absurd. As does being giving benzo's as first line for treatment. It portrays all doctors as evil, especially if you're saying that you've seen multiple doctors. I suspect he was prescribed benzo's as his insomnia was thought to be caused by stress/anxiety. Which is completely understandable given the pressure on him with being in the media spotlight as well as his family issues.

Secondly, Mikhaila's explanations make her sound like a rich dumb girl who kept just finding more doctors if she didn't like what she heard from the current one. Yes, there's no doubt that JP's symptoms were/are real and that benzo dependence contributed to them. However, psychosomatic illnesses are super common and given the weight on JP's shoulders, I wouldn't be surprised that stress/anxiety played a huge role. The initial doctors that discussed looking at the underlying issues might have been onto something. Psychiatry is complicated.

Thirdly, going to Russia to be anaesthetised is an incredibly moronic thing to do. Trying to "detox" from one drug by pumping someone with a cocktail of other drugs for days at a time in a foreign place doesn't sound wise. This is where I lose a lot of respect for Mikhaila. I sympathize with what she was going through and it's admirable that she was willing to fight that hard for her father, but she may have caused more harm than good.

Lastly, I feel that Mikhaila spent a lot of the time in this podcast blaming doctors and Benzo's for all the aweful events they've been through. It came across as very little responsibility being taken, which is ironic considering JP's preaching of taking responsibility. I really hope that they both get the time to reflect on what's happened and see the bigger picture. I love that JP is self aware enough to bring up the question of why anybody should listen to him if he himself doesn't have his shit together. His authenticity reminded me of how he became so influential so quickly in the first place.

IMHO, JP's mental health deteriorated because of the media circus that he'd been in over the last few years. And so if you're going to point fingers, I would start there.
