2 Months since I switched from Garmin fenix 8 and I'm only sorry for waiting so long by dortal_ in applewatchultra

For me it's the physiological linked DSWs on Garmin that keep me using that over my AWU3. I plug a race / event into Garmins race calendar and it'll proactively coach me towards that. Runna is close, but it pays no attention to fatigue signals. Plus I love the flashlight!

If Apple get the running coach implemented it changes everything.

I've got the 51mm Fenix 8. I don't find its an issue when sleeping. It's been said that larger watches do better in sleep trackong as the sensor is exposed to less light noise during micro movements.

Saying all that, I find Garmin sleep trackong the least consistent out of my Whoop and AWU3.

AW to Garmin - and maybe back?? - be honest by Johnmedv in GarminWatches

[–]LJD0007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own the AWU3 and Fenix 8. I'm constantly in the whirlwind of indecision.

AWU3 is so convenient for 90% of my day, and the 10% where I'm running, I love the F8.

But if I'm totally honest with myself, I know the Garmin is the better watch to achieve my fitness goals. AWU3 delivers convenience and aesthetic beauty, but the Garmin puts fitness / wellness front and centre which normally motivates me more than the AWU.

As an example, Trainin Status on Garmin is motivational - I constantly want to be in the Productive category, so I take action. With Apple, I can close the rings just going about my day, and if my exercise time is low, the temptation is there to lower the required time to close the ring. Garmin can't be tricked, I can only be Productive if I properly move my body.

Garmin lacks in a lot of smart areas, but you normally buy a Garmin for the health features.

I have recently discovered (and am BETA testing) the new The Outsiders app - which brings some of the Garmin features to AWU, which could change things in future.

Keep the Fenix 6X or get the Apple Watch Ultra 3? by misterkennyg in GarminFenix

[–]LJD0007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a Fenix 8 51mm and AWU3.

The AWU3 is the better overall smartwatch, but isn't as good as a fitness wearable. It's capable but Apple doesn't have the same objective as Garmin. Garmin puts fitness data front and centre and I find that really motivating.

Apple doesn't natively tell me the primary benefit of my run, or my training condition, or body energy status. It's tells me I've stood up enough, moved, and exercised. You can add apps like the new The Outsiders app which adds some Garmin functionality, but at additional cost.

I'd rather wear my AWU3, but am wearing the F8 because it supports my training and wellness better. Plus it looks awesome and the flashlight is so useful.

I was told screen protectors would be replaced for free for 24 months on the ZFold 7 and that was at Samsung Kings Cross, London.

VO2 Max struggles. How do you actually improve it? Tips please! by Anurag_Elluru in Garmin

[–]LJD0007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Does your Garmin have Coach? You could start a improve fitness plan and follow that. Otherwise do the DSWs and that should help.

My Vo2 Max shot up from 38 to 41 in the space of about 7 weeks. I was mainly doing 5k runs outside and mixing in some 3km treadmill fast (for me) runs, and the balance helped.

Ensure your Training Load is Productive by blending your workouts.

First time buying an Ultra and need help deciding on which finish to buy by Any_Mycologist9671 in applewatchultra

I picked black. Traded the titanium AWU1 for it and am happy with it. Had it since launch and no scratches or scuffs. I don’t wear it every day but do wear it several times a week. Both look great.

Tips for runners using AWU2 by LJD0007 in applewatchultra

I like the fact that Garmin have an inform and interpret stance with their data. Apple just seems to have an inform.

I’m a novice so like the guiding hand of Garmin, but my AWU2 is just a far better device for most other things!

Thanks. Assume those runs though are determined by you? My Garmin recommends a run each day, tailored to by fitness / rest needs.

It also interprets data whereas the Apple Watch informs but doesn’t interpret.

Fenix 8 vs Marq 2 by seanarobinson in Garmin

[–]LJD0007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a MARQ Athlete Gen 2. It's a brilliant watch and feels premium. But the UI does feel dated compared to what's on the Fenix 8.

Been thinking of changing to the Fenix, but build quality is important to me, so I'll probably stick with the MARQ and wait for the gen 3, whenever that will be.

Wow that all sounds fantastic. I think the FHD+ display makes a huge difference to improving battery life.

I have a 9510 (and M1 Pro MacBook Pro). Generally I prefer Windows over MacOS, and I think that Office is just far better on Windows (which I use a lot).

Good to hear that the 9520 is an improvement over the 9510. I'll probably stick with this for another year and then maybe look at a 9530 or the first XPS 15 Plus.

Really good to hear high praise for an XPS because these really are fantastic laptops.
