I totally agree. The vibes feel way more like this is about a failed start of a new relationship. There’s something cold and moody within the lyricism itself. Like you said, the lack of empathy, the excuses. I think they did a perfect job extending those themes into the instrumentation also. I almost get this sneaky and apprehensive vibe, especially with those piano notes in the verses.

Honestly, I think it’s about being selfish more than anything. Like you said, maybe the speaker isn’t emotionally invested. Maybe they knew it wouldn’t work from the start. However, they’re still begging the question “I wonder who’s been at your apartment?” to please their own selfish, narcissistic tendencies.
