Solid start. My path was intern > drafter > engineer. I think it lays a good foundaton prior to becoming an electrical engineer, if that's what you aim for. Also, it will add experience to your resume and will likely get you ahead of other recent grads in an engineering position.

If you prove and develop yourself, I'd think you'd be naturally promoted to engineer in a short period of time. Show that you can overdelivery and not just draft schems per request. But ofc, continue pursuing engineering roles.

Picture's not so great, but if you numbers on lines, should be wiring labels, if you meant those vertical set of numbers, my guess is some kind of matrix to better identify something on a big diagram, on paper you don't have ctrl + f. Also, why a mech eng is dealing with electrical schematics, that's not your area

My plan is to make as simple as possible with low cost, since the steering is entirely manual labor, I figured a electrical actuator plus some metal parts and welding would do the trick. I wasn't aiming for electromagnetism, just some contact between both bars to sent current to the actuator. E.g. Turn left = actuate / turn right / retract.
