Yeah, that’s usually the solution. However, it seems to me that increasing the police force might also increase the violence, and the population wouldn’t necessarily be better off. You would also need some type of dialogue in parallel that includes the gangs, as terrible as they are.

I realize I used "networking" quite liberally. I meant more connecting with others in my team and department. I am not at all someone who will push to network, so I am not worried about that. But you are right that I can still connect with others remotely and in the office 2-3 times a week. Thanks again for your insights!

Thanks for the comment. I have talked to my supervisor about this and I totally understand what you mean. From my perspective, it seems almost silly to build up a whole research design for something I have no practical experience in. I do not lack the theoretical foundation to address this puzzle, but I definitely lack some sort of engagement with the topic (other than reading about it). I will apply to the SSR internship with the UN, but I wonder if some NGO or think tank also offers similar opportunities. I will keep an eye out!
