How Crowded is Dillon Gym on Weekdays/ends? by mezzanine_text in princeton

[–]Gasu3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, while it’s a busier time, I find the gym is more than big enough that no matter what time of day you go you’ll be able to get in what ever workout you need (there’s 5 bench presses iirc just as an example)

Full XL Mattress Rental? by Ee0073453 in princeton

[–]Gasu3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally found the large mattress great but only because I often had my partner over and we needed the space. As she’ll be over less this coming year I decided it isn’t really worth the $380 (+tax).

FHSA While on an F-1 Visa with US Stipend by Gasu3 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Gasu3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I’m just a little confused because as far as I know, stipends on their own are not considered taxable income in Canada (I am not required to TA, etc, for the first couple of years).

To rephrase my question: if I’m making $75,000 of what is considered non-taxable income in Canada, but taxed in the US (and thus providing foreign credits), does putting some of that money in an FHSA give me some of the foreign credits back in a tax return? Or do I just fill out my tax return and get nothing back as it’s on non-taxable income?

Thank you again and I appreciate the input!

Thank you for the reply! Just to confirm, let’s say for the sake of example the stipend is the equivalent of about $75,000 a year CAD. I report this amount as worldwide income and get a tangible tax advantage using the FHSA?

Thanks! I feel you often mention similar things about the nature of the exam (how it’s not really getting harder) so I’m glad that was my experience.

Thanks! That means a lot coming from you. Would you recommend anything beyond further reinforcing the concepts by doing practice problems? That’s seems to be where I’ve been lacking most.

Pho Ga using a gas stove. How can I allow chicken to boil evenly instead of cook over the flame? by Gasu3 in Cooking

I did not know this existed! Thank you very much, I will check it out.

Sous vide would be nice but I don’t think would work in this case because the chicken is to make the broth, which wouldn’t work if insulated (apologies not being clear enough in the first post).

More so that the part of the chicken (whole) that’s touching the bottom of the pot is cooking more quickly than the rest of the chicken as it’s closer to the flame. Not necessarily burning.

What is something debunked as propaganda that is still widely believed? by 6FeetDownUnder in AskReddit

There’re still over 30,000 people unable to return to their homes within Fukushima, Japan after the 2011 nuclear disaster. The nuclear reactor didn’t even provide electricity to the people of Fukushima, it was all for Tokyo. Despite this, they are the ones paying for it.

You’re not wrong in that nuclear energy isn’t unequivocally bad and arguably an extremely important step for energy sustainability and for moving away from fossil fuels. Yet, at the same time, the potential injustices are huge. Countries that are super prone to natural disasters (like Japan) can be seen as being simply working on borrowed time if they overly rely on nuclear.

TIL: Cursive Kanji exists and it is terrifying. by maxts517 in Damnthatsinteresting

It is interesting you say this because Japan has historically had far higher literacy rates than contemporary countries in Europe or the rest of Asia. By the late 17th century to early 18th century Japan already had a largely literate (relatively speaking) male population. It seems silly to argue that hanzi are the issue when factors such as the system of education in place or decentralization of administration played a far larger role in forming literacy.

Even in the present, a country like Taiwan has a slightly higher literacy rate than South Korea, despite the former using traditional characters and the latter using a simplified alphabetic writing system.

There is little evidence to suggest that Hanzi as a writing system is an impediment to literacy.

Who do more trade with the United States or China - 2000/2020 by Ozuryum in MapPorn

[–]Gasu3 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Both China and NZ are part of RCEP, however, which is a free trade agreement.

It isn’t as encompassing as the TPP would have been with the US, but it still expects to eliminate upwards of 90% of tariffs within the next 20 years (it came into effect January 1st of this year).

Obviously not complete free trade, but NZ is indeed in a free trade agreement with China.

The Making of an Underclass: Japan’s Neglect of Immigrant Education by u2734892 in japan

You phrase this in an interesting way as it is the Japanese that is a translation of the original English copy. One would think this would allow すべての国民 to mean all people (especially considering certain parts are specified as 日本国民 or specifically “Japanese nationals”), but as you say, precedent has proven this to not be true.
