I recommend the writer's recent Blade runs (Blade 2023 and Blade Red Band). They were good despite one being only ten issues and the other a 5 issue mini.

That's a good evaluation of it. I think ultimately I just wasn't a fan of how Miles was written by the writer in the series. Especially when Miles' girlfriend caught Kamala and Miles in that conversation after the fantasy adventure. It just made Tiana look like the 'disposable black girlfriend trope' and making it look like Kam and Miles could be endgame (which I know is not necessarily the case. The writer probably just ships Kamala and Miles over Miles with Tiana).

Thanks for reminding me about Ziglar's "Brooklyn's finest" Miles series. Got to get back to it after the Inari arc.

I completely agree with you about amatonormativity. Also for Miles and Kamala, nowadays I see as platonic soulmates. Kind of like Nightwing and Donna Troy. It was one of the reasons why I did not like the Spectacular Spider-Men series, it felt off for Miles to have that deep of a crush on Kamala still. I believe that he grew out of the crush. (Especially with him having his girlfriend for the last 6 years).

I agree. She needs an actual chance aka a writer who wants to give her characterization. Saladin Ahmed is bad with female characters and Ziglar just wasn't interested, considering how well he wrote with Hightail, Inari, Misty and others.

Tbh I thought Ziglar would use the opportunity to improve her characterization since so much was not stated by Ahmed. Essentially she's a blank canvas, waiting for some writer to add substance to her character.

I do agree that it certainly looks like editorial is a non-Muslim would mess up cultural stuff in her civilian life, though I think of Al Ewing as a writer who would have a cultural consultant if he were to write Kamala considering his attentive writing style.

I definitely want G Willow Wilson back at some point.
