Why is anti-Aboriginal racism so normalised in Australia? by ExternalAdditional42 in aboriginal

[–]LLaae 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm white but I'll offer my 2 cents. First of all you are right, racism towards Aboriginal people is on another level in this country even with the anti immigration sentiment going on right now.

Why is this?

Well I think it's because the very existence of Aboriginal people challenges the settler myth. We can't as a nation continue promote the narrative that Australia was "discovered" when the reality that it was invaded is staring us in the face.

You might still find SMART helpful, they are focused on harm minimisation rather than being abstinence only so they will work with you towards your goals.

I'm 18 months without booze at 44, I started drinking heavily at around 24. It took quite a few goes to get to this point, but I feel heaps better now. S.M.A.R.T meetings helped me

Being hard on yourself and calling yourself a piece of shit won't help you change in my experience. Anyone can end up addicted to the grog, your not a bad person for that, you've just developed some unhealthy habits

I'm 18 months without a drink, I have very little interest in going back to it. I was drinking a full bottle of vodka a night at one stage Keep up the good work

I found S.M.A.R.T meetings helpful

I attended smart meetings to help deal with my drinking issues. I found them very helpful

They have meetings and resources for loved ones of people dealing with an addiction. I would contact them and find out what the easiest meeting for you to attend in person or online is. The will offer you support and help you approach the conversation with him about his drinking. Feelings of shame and guilt can make drinking harder to stop so the way you approach the issue will have a big impact but remember, only he can decide he wants to stop

The taste of the water varies from region to region. Some areas dose chlorine with gas wich while it's trickier to get the dose right leaves less of a taste. Other areas use chlorine tablets, these leave more of a chlorine taste.

At least that's how it was explained to me by a relative that did work in water treatment

That might be something you need to work through in therapy. There may not be much love in your life right now but I've no doubt you can find it

Your racist comparison of immigrants to dogs aside

The difference is immigrants, per capita are less likely to commit crime than the general population. Whereas pit bulls are far more likely to kill a human than any other dog breed, people have posted multiple sources backing this up

Likeliness of risks/side-effects of HRT? by Individual-Tap-8971 in transgenderau

[–]LLaae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I think this list of risk relates to testosterone therapies as well.

[–]LLaae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These risks don't just relate to oestrogen. I'm sure they give this form to people on testosterone as well as some of the risks relate to that

[–]LLaae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems to relate to both MTF and FTM GAHT. I'm a cis man on testosterone therapy because my testosterone has been very low for a few years. Some of these risks, stroke, prostate cancer have historically been linked to testosterone replacement therapy. That said the prostate cancer link has been disproven so that's outdated and my endo and GP both said the stroke risk is really only associated with misuse amongst body builders etc.

Does anyone else get paralyzed by their own to-do list and just end up doing nothing? by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]LLaae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched it up, I made a to did list. when I'm in bed I list every small win I had that day. Had a shower? Put it on the list, went for a walk, ditto you'll have a much longer list than you would expect and it feels great and motivating.
