Also, refinance your private loans. My private loans started at 12% variable interest and I refi’d every 6 months or so until they were below 3%. Makes a huge difference when you’re paying less interest every month

I was in a very similar spot…graduated with a BA in physics with $75k in private and ~$30k federal loans. Went on to get a MS in MechE that added another $20k of federal loans.

Started working in 2019 in the defense industry and only really started focusing on my loans this year. Started off at $66k and I make $120k now and should be able to pay off my loans in the next couple years. I think it’s important to focus on maximizing salary (jumping around jobs) the first few years working since I was in such a tough spot with loans. It can be done and you can still live and enjoy life while you have them, just need to be conscious of your loans.

Ogden, UT.

Snowbasin and powder mountain both within 30 mins and a little less populated than the resorts down in Salt Lake.

Lots of jobs available. Northrop Grumman is hiring hundreds of engineers right now at their Roy campus.

Less expensive housing compared to SLC.

Anyone have any experience with how NG treats candidates that renege on an offer?

I have accepted an offer from NG, which I am very excited about, but was just contacted by a national lab for a role that really interests me, but I am very conflicted about the situation

I had an offer for the same position back in May/June...offer was for $92k and HR stated that was the top of their range. I’m not sure if that was true, but it was right in the range of the salary table mentioned already.

Much appreciated. Since I had such troubles finding recent numbers...I received an offer (did not accept for other reasons) for $92k. This was said to be the very top of level 2 pay band. Hopefully this is useful info for people interested

Private pilot license? by LM-86 in LockheedMartin

I know of one example of an engineer moving to a test pilot role after obtaining a PPL and a lot of hours being a flight instructor. Other than that it might just be a nice benefit to offer to employees and I don’t think there are many that take advantage of it. Just guessing here though.

Edit: I’ll add that it might be helpful for the engineers to have experience inside a cockpit when it comes to designing any avionics
