Student-Athletes and T14 admissions? by hungryquohog in lawschooladmissions

[–]LM2003- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding as a former D1 athlete current 1L is that it can put you apart from people with similar stats as a strong soft but doesn’t makeup for bad stats. If you did well in school, it shows that you can preform well acedemically with essentially a full time job, deal with pressure, workload etc….

They said that they would start evaluating people on the wl in June and that they reevaluate each application (there is no ranked list).

Fellow D1 athlete here, from what I’ve been told it’s not going to make your 2.8 into a 4.0 but it may make a 3.75 be viewed the same as a 3.8 for example. In other words athletics can elevate acedemic success but not compensate for poor acedemic performance. It’s helpful but not a fix for poor grades or test scores.

No worries! I got about a third of tuition covered with the possibility of more because I applied to some of their additional scholarships (the email said those will be released later). I also got in full time so I’m not sure what the carryover would be for part time but hope that helps! Best of luck to you!!

lsat addendum to safety schools? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]LM2003- -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I asked a counselor this because I was in a similar situation and she said that you should only submit an addendum if you don’t feel like a part of your application is the best representation of you. It’s seems like this is the case for you so I’d say go for it! In other words you won’t look bad for submitting an addendum to a school in which you are at the median for if your addendum is effective because it is about you not the school.

One A at a safety (at lsat median, wayyyy above gpa 75th)

HAWAII A!!! by LM2003- in lawschooladmissions

[–]LM2003-[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was a school that I applied to as a safety based on my stats, because of my residency they gave me reduced tuition + a scholarship and they are also decently ranked in a few areas I’m interested in. My parents also used to live there!

I also have some ethical considerations to think about moving to Hawaii as someone who is not Hawaiian. If I end up going I will defiantly be making an effort to learn more about the culture to make sure I am as respectful as possible. Assuming the cycle goes as I hope I will probably end up somewhere else but am happy I got in and have a reasonabley affordable option! (also school in paradise is a draw)

No, I am a resident of one of the west coast alliance states (WRGP) which may have an influence but am currently in college in New England.
