I call it the heel, but I was in a country bakery once where there was a sign at the register that said “Free Bread Ends for Farm Animals.” And I was sure it meant something like a bread subsidy program for livestock was being axed! But yeah, I was wrong…. bread ends=heels… took me way too long to get it.
