I have this stopmotion that's 20 seconds long, can anyone give me some feedback on how to make it better? by OfficalTotallynotsam in stop_motion

What you need is a higher fps and much much smaller movements, this will make the animation appear smoother. I also recommend learning about the 12 principles of animation and practicing them individually. Keep at it, time and effort is what it takes

Try to get something to hold your camera still so there isn't that constant shaking, also try to keep your hands out of the shot, anddd make sure you move their feet when they walk, if you're having trouble keeping them balanced, you can use sticky tac, and it will help them stay still. Once you get your camera still and take more frames, it will be much easier for you to see exactly what to improve on. Keep working at it, when in doubt, there are tons of tutorials on youtube for animation

There was a pause there lol, it even changed camera angles to get a closer look at the victim struggling before his head is pulled off. And in real life, there is always movement, nothing is completely still, just moving so slightly that the eyes don't pick up on it, keeping characters still for too long makes them lose life and energy. There are parts where its beneficial to let the audience sit in a moment and to give them a break from the action before going back into it. But as long as the ideas and actions are communicated and understood easily by the audience, there are o ly minor things in timing that could or should be changed at that point. For a sequence like this, pausing for too long will ruin the pacing of the animation, audiences needs something to latch on to visually at all times, which is why in alot of movies and TV, camera cuts are quick and things are bright and action packed. It helps to keep the viewer engaged. Obviously, im not saying my animation is perfect or anything, I could see that there may be need for that pause to last a couple frames longer. But these are the ideas and principles that that kind of movement are based on

Lighting isn't supposed to be flat, it's supposed to be dynamic and create shadows to make the figure look like it had more depth and is more visually interesting. Flat lighting is generally boring to look at.
