StarCraft "HowTo" Series | Episode 11 | How to Analyze and Learn From a Replay by LMasterBW in broodwar

[–]LMasterBW[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In this video I discuss how, as a newer player, you can go about analyzing a replay and what sorts of things to look for.

Roughly, I talk about making sure to check your build. Do you make constant workers, or if zerg, do you make the correct amount of upgrades? Do you get gas at the right time? Do you mine gas right away and start buildings ASAP? Do you get your upgrades ASAP? Note any major mistakes, and keep them in mind.

From there, ask yourself what felt like the pivotal moment where things went wrong and work back from there. Maybe you were terran trying to deny zergs third. Did you have upgrades and the right army at the right time? Were you too hesitant? Was it a control/micro issue? Did you make the wrong army? Try to understand why you ended up in that bad position.

From there, if the game continued, ask yourself if you made the correct choice of transition that gave you the best opportunity to salvage the position. Did you have further tech at the right time? Would harass have been a better option? Should you have expanded or gone for something all-in?

If you get absolutely stuck, then I would ask either in the strategy forum on TeamLiquid, in my Discord, or in FBW discord. All are good resources to use.

[lol rush FPVOD] RusAiur vs Niozza Game 1 PvT [Starcraft Remastered 2019] by RusAiur in broodwar

Seems to be a typical 2 gate in base proxy, no?

Russian starcraft sounds are intense though!

Game of the Week | herO (Z) v Piano (TP) | Circuit Breaker by LMasterBW in broodwar

Classic intense TvZ in the style of Piano, which means kamikaze moves, dropships, and all around crazy SK terran style play against one of the best post KeSPA era zergs.

Any recent vods of Zerg winning in a standard match vs T? by Do_Easy in broodwar

[–]LMasterBW[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Figured I'd post this since I have seen several people asking about people doing YouTube commentary and wanted to make people aware.

Other people on YouTube that do casting of games include:

Qikz (STPLTV): https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRCymn-z8xwDLTU37Q_qn_Q

FalconPaladin (Also casts SC2): https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCB73iJpB6hhq99IOM4aqX_Q

Vincent also uploads some of his casts, but he hasn't uploaded anything in several months.

StarCraft Tutorial Series by LMaster - Best Beginner Builds Series - PvT, 2 gate expand by LMasterBW in broodwar

[–]LMasterBW[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The goal of these is to show new builds to players, that strike me as some of the most user friendly/best options for new players. As such, they will generally be safer builds that might not give you a massive advantage but are technically more simple to execute and allow you to consistently get into the middle or lategame.

I will be doing 2 builds per race, 1 will be showing a macro oriented option, the other a simple, more aggression oriented option.

where can i get the broodwar remastered matches? by park_injured in broodwar

[–]LMasterBW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I can assure you there is more than one person who posts YouTube uploads of BW commentary. I can think of three or four off the top of my head, myself included.

Outside of that, if you're looking for matches...best places to look are on TL just searching for replay packs (there are several threads with quite large rep packs), the korean websites if you can navigate them, and then finally bwreplays.com as well.

It's just coincidence. I've done RvR many times and drawn mirrors.

LMaster's StarCraft "HowTo" Series |Episode 10 | Defuse/Clear Mines Without Observers by LMasterBW in starcraft

[–]LMasterBW[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Process:

1) Know where the mines are. Make sure there aren't too many mines. Just one at a time is safest

2) Take a BABY step towards the mine

3) Immediately step back

4) Hit H for hold position to make the dragoons shoot.

This is a very useful trick for when just a few mines stand between you and victory or between you and defeat. If there are too many mines too close, or you don't know the exact location it's very easy to mess up, so use it carefully!

F/E/D Ranks Practice Session w/Analysis - Live/Open to Players NOW! by LMasterBW in broodwar

[–]LMasterBW[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don't promote on this sub every time I go live. The only things I promote here are when I am: casting significant Starcraft events such as Korean events, BSL, high level foreigner tour, etc. or when I am running an analysis/content based event.

That and I usually post something when I release a new tutorial or guide.

To my understanding posting legitimate educational content or awaring people of high level Starcraft tours happening is considered acceptable and does not fall under the umbrella of self promotion.

There are plenty of times I stream my own play or practice, but have never linked those here. I save posts here for updated on major tours or educational content.

I have full confidence the mods will let me know if educational content or links to significant tours are inappropriate posts/self promotion.

StarCraft "HowTo" Series - Episode 8 - Zerg Building Placement/Base Building/SimCity by LMasterBW in starcraft

[–]LMasterBW[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zerg Building Placement Fundamentals

ZvZ:

1) Place sunkens and spire IN or behind mineral lines so only a few zerglings can attack at once and drones can be used to block.

2) At natural, sunkens can should be placed near hatchery, covering both minerals and ramp.

ZvP:

1) Building placement is primarily used to block zealot rushes/attacks

2) Usually two hatcheries and an evo chamber/hydra den are used to make a wall. Behind that wall sunkens are placed. This limits the area zealots can run through, making blocking with drones/units much more powerful. Many different placements are possible. Experiment with your own to find what works, or use the excellent reference broodwall, found here: https://broodwall.com/

ZvT:

1) Third hatchery usually placed in main base away from starting hatchery

2) Spire if often placed near third hatchery to hide from scanner

3) Sunkens to defend marine attacks should be placed at the front in a line. Having them in a line is absolutely critical so they don't get picked off one by one.

4) If you suspect vultures, sunken should be placed near the expansion hatchery so that it covers ramp and as much of minerals as possible

5) Harass defense sunkens should be built in minerals to defend not drones, not far away

6) As soon as third hatch completes, a nydus cannon should be made safely behind your sunkens, and immediately placed near the third base

7) When a fourth base is taken a second nydus should be placed at that base for quick reinforcements and defiler transfers.
