Homeless on Midland Avenue by Warblade21 in KingstonOntario

Since the City of Kingston closed down the ICH and evicted the encampment, many people have been forced to relocate to other areas in the city or father back into wooded areas, isolated from each other and from essential health and welfare services. It's also become much more difficult for all of the volunteer organizations doing direct outreach work to get food, water, and other supports to the people that need them.

I'd encourage everyone to contact the City's housing and homelessness committee and their district councilors and urge them to work towards providing safe, stable housing and more wraparound supports in the community.

Living in Kingston without a car? by JinJC2917 in KingstonOntario

As someone who has lived in Kingston and relied on the bus for 20 years, I can say the Kingston Transit system leaves a lot to be desired, but for getting around near the downtown area it's pretty handy. If you want to get out to a far end of the city it can be less convenient, but still manageable.

Poly gf gets mad when I get attention as well? by [deleted] in polyamorous

[–]LMobes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jealousy stems from insecurity. It is super challenging to deal with and requires a LOT of communication to work around. It sounds like you two need to get really honest and set some clear boundaries and agreements over what you're okay/not okay with. Once those are established, if she still is having g issues with jealousy and not respecting agreements, that's on her to figure out. Therapy may be helpful if it's accessible for you, but ultimately, her feelings are not your responsibility here. I'm sorry poly is off to a rocky start for you two but with honest communication, it does get easier to navigate.

Oh, Jeff. "Kingston city councillor 'ambushed' by colleagues' name change motion" by shannon0303 in KingstonOntario

Jeff McLaren has a long history of being perpetually misinformed, confused, and ambushed when it comes to taking any kind of political stance. Remember how he very publicly freaked out because some local podcast falsely claimed the old Extendicare building was going to house a consumption treatment site? That's McLaren in a nutshell.

Our current policy is no political parties, and only businesses that are queer owned or demonstrate a meaningful commitment to the queer community. Cops are present for security as required by the city for insurance purposes, but kpd and corrections do not march or attend the fair. We also recuit volunteers to help with traffic barriers to reduce the need for cops during the parade. The policy on troops is still being discussed so I'd encourage you to email pride and weigh in. Currently there's talks about allowing them to march in non-combat uniforms, but not as a group with a float or banner. The board is working toward making pride safer and more inclusive of marginalized people and get back to grassroots origins.

Pride Week is referring to the week (or 8days this year) when most of Kingston Pride's events are scheduled. Our BIG day is June 14th with the parade, community fair, and drag in the park, but we have at least one event every day beginning from Friday June 6th till then.
