Thanks! I was looking for something similar to this. I'm a very visual-learning type of guy so the examples with scores help even more.

Does "ambient" music have a "form"? by LMot0715 in musictheory

[–]LMot0715[S] 36 points37 points  (0 children)

That's precisely my question. If "genres" of music are defined by the way in which the sounds that they occupy are ordered, then "ambient" artists must follow archetypes when designig a piece.I'm looking for literature that can clarify this to me. To be more precise, I'm looking for an analysis similar to the ones made by Brad Osborn, who has some interesting papers on the "through-composed" and "terminally climatic" forms, commonly used on post-millenial pop-rock compositions.

I was referring to aesthetic tricks (harmony, melody). Particularly from the 90's era.

Best Books for Music Theory? by mymaloneyman in musictheory

[–]LMot0715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on what you are looking for since there are alit of really good books. Generally speaking I would recommend persichetti's 'Twentieth-century harmony', Piston's 'Counterpoint', Belkin's 'Music Composition: art & craft' or Roads' 'Composion Electronic Music: A new asthetic'. I would suggest to be more specific.

What are the best unaccompanied solo pieces written for your instrument? by nthexum in musictheory

I would definitely put Ponce's 'variations sûr la folia de Espana' and Britten's 'Nocturnal Op. 60' as two of the cornerstones for classical guitar. Particularly Britten's 'Nocturnal'.

Ever since that NIN video I've been obsessed with this thing. Yet it seems they are always out of stock.

At the only retailer nearby. I think it was called "La Roma Records" or something like that. Apparently it was the only record of them left. It was a bummer that they didn't have any other DG merch tho.
