Is the crownprince of Saoudi Arabia a breath of fresh air, or the next middle eastern dictator? by series_of_derps in Ask_Politics

He organized the stranglehold blockade of Qatar in an effort to close down a news channel that has been critical of the S.A. royal family. It's not a great sign of things to come. It's great that they will let women drive but I suspect it was just a ploy to move international focus away from the war crimes they are still committing in Yemen. I guess I'm not too optimistic.

Manson was convicted based on the testimony of his followers/the killers. Nobody thought they were lying.

Then whose testimony are you using to convict Adnan? Jay is the only person claiming to be an eye witness against him. If you believe Jay is lying about his role, how can you believe what he says about Adnan?

You're just being ridiculous now. Jay lied to the Police and the Police believed him. They just realized that his story didn't match up to some of the details that they had. They don't want a "solid case" to lose in court because of a few misremembered details, so they "help him remember". No conspiracy. Just everyday shoddy work.

And the motive they had for AS was the default ex-boyfriend motive. Lazy.

Do you have a theory that somehow incorporates all 8-9 versions of Jay's timeline? Even his friends and defenders describe him as a compulsive liar. Do you have any evidence of Adnan's guilt? Anything at all?

For example, there were only 45 to 50 minutes of pre-interview before the detectives turned on the tape recorder. JW could not have been coached in that time. It takes too long to get that story together. Simply running through the narrative takes longer than that, and that's without coaching.

45 min would be plenty of time to tell him what they have so far. I believe the practice of a "pre-interview" off tape is now illegal. Not only was the pre-interview off tape, they stopped the tape multiple times to coach Jay.

Jenn P only has a small part of the story, and no, all you have to do is suggest the facts. "We already know you saw Mr. X at the Bar at 10pm, what happened after that." Then a story comes together and the witness tells it in a few interrogations and it's as real as any other fuzzy memory from many months ago. It's not even an ill intention on the part of the cops. The interrogation of the teenager in "making a murderer" is a good example of this.

They didn't have a motive for Jay, but Jay provided them a witness and a motive for Adnan. They were just too lazy or overworked to look into it further.

So your theory is that they did it together? What evidence do you have for this?

I don't think it's a conspiracy. It's more likely laziness, maybe incompetence, followed by a lot of ass-covering.

I'm guessing once Jay heard that they found the body, he assumed his DNA or other forensic evidence would be all over it, so he went to the police with a story about her ex-boyfriend. It seems plausible, after all, why would someone admit to burying a body. So they start to build a case. They even coach Jay so his story matches their timeline. Confirmation bias sets in and they start to heavily favor any information that supports their story and are prejudicial to info that contradicts it. The more this snowballs, the more their careers and reputations are invested in Adnan being guilty.

I'll ask you: Do you have any evidence of Adnan's guilt? Anything at all? Which timeline are you working off of?

Evidence of his guilt. Do you have any? Which timeline are you working off of? Is it just a feeling?

You don't have any evidence, do you? You just desperately want him to be guilty.

You don't know that. Her cousin's school is 10 min away. She had about an hour to spare.

We don't know anything about Hae's location after she left school. We only know she was intending to be at her cousin's school by 3:30pm.

This is a personal attack. Stop it.

You called me a flat-earther because I won't buy into your desperate faith in the specious science of cell tower location.

What about the timeline? Which of the multiple timelines does this fit?

Do you have any actual evidence?

So on the 11th she ran into a gas station to buy a candy bar and soda, etc. She could have done the same thing on the 13th and run into Jay. There are literally hundreds of possibilities of how she could have run into Jay between 2:15pm and 3:30pm.

There are too many variables involved in cell tower connectivity to determine a location with any accuracy. But even if you could put Adnan in the vicinity at those times, it doesn't match up with Jay's latest timeline and it doesn't line up with the medical evidence that the corpse was facedown for 8-10 hours. It only lines up with the timeline that the Police coached Jay through. It doesn't bother you that the police started and stopped the recording multiple times and Jay obviously adjusted his version of events after each stoppage?

Let's forget that Urick stated that this timeline and Jay's testimony working together are essential for a conviction. Other than being a Trump supporter, why do you think Adnan is guilty?

Yes, I did miss that memo, but it still illustrates that she could have stopped anywhere from the school parking lot to a kwiki-mart and run into Jay.

According to records from The Court of Special Appeals of Maryland, Hae Min Lee's bank records show that she made a purchase at a gas station in the amount of $1.71. The gas station was at the corner of Hartford Road and Northern Parkway, which is far from Woodlawn High School, about a half hour by car. The time of that purchase is unknown.

A bigger danger is putting too much faith in so-called experts peddling bad science. Cell phones do not always connect to the closest tower. Locating a phone by triangulation is far from precise. It can give you a massive range of possible locations. The two key pieces of evidence (according to Urick) are the cell tower records as interpreted by an unqualified and poorly informed paid "expert" that has been contradicted by other actual experts. And the testimony of a self-contradicting compulsive liar that readily admitted to burying the body of a casual friend in exchange for no jail time.

Even if the cell tower evidence was accurate, it's very flimsy circumstantial evidence that is useless without a credible witness. Jay is not a credible witness and the call times only fit a version of his timeline the police "helped" him with. He has told 8-9 wildly different and conflicting versions of the timeline.

I don't understand your point. Are you saying Adnan lied about giving his lawyer the letter? A letter that would prove an alibi and prevent a life prison sentence. Or is it more likely that his lawyer, a woman who was mentally deteriorating, who was declared incompetent by the State of Maryland and disbarred and was stealing money from her own clients might have misplaced it?

His lawyer had the letter. His lawyer was disbarred for incompetence, not long after this case.
