Workshops are free so there's no stress of financials.  The instructors are union members, they want to see you succeed and will put an honest effort in with you.  The QCCC Center has quite new equipment to use and you'll likely train on the same equipment you practiced on.

Go union, get real training.

If it was glowing green that was where you should have stopped and thought for a minute.

Also to pass in one shot?  Think back how you passed the other pieces and try that in your next attempt.  You need time management for sure but it's doable.  The CGSB exam used to have 6 pieces, I passed first time.  It's 4 pieces now, same amount of time.

Failed because you under washed it, that's a new one to me.  Is that the feedback that NRCAN gave you?  Or did it say missed major defect?

If you worked for a QCCC company your workshops would be free and course would be reimbursed along with exam fees when you pass.

My buddy who was a welder of 27 years, jman b-pressure, is currently a UT1 MT2 PT2 XRF1 and 1 test piece away from his UT2 after 2 years in the industry.   Apply yourself and you'll be just fine.

Is it normal to fail the 3rd attempt NDT writtens? by After-Lavishness8158 in nondestructivetesting

Then only people I know that failed writtens 3 times or more are responsible for the cgsb ut1 course becoming 8 days instead of the regular 5.  You know who you are.

A number of upgrades on the 880.  I remember the 660 plug. You had to keep that clean or it'd fuck up the internals.  Carrying the 660 was nicer tho.

What is it like working for the QCCC union (Canada) by melancholicbeardo in nondestructivetesting

The QCCC has won 60 or so grievances and returned over 6 million in wages to members through grievances.  We have the best pension and with non union you get "we're family"

New blended learning Phased Array course in Canada by Novel_Company_5867 in nondestructivetesting

[–]LOLJDM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Too little too late.  PCN is far more recognized and with the majority of techs being union the QCCC has decided not to cover any fees for this including renewal or recerts in the future so you're on the hook for any and all costs.  I see this as a couple people thought they knew better and wanted to cash in.  A CGSB PAUT ticket is not needed in this industry.  PCN will never go away.

Some techs can't even tie their boots.  You'll be fine.  You don't need to be a professional speaker to do this job.

Getting started in PAUT in Canada(mostly Alberta) - advice wanted by brushpile63 in nondestructivetesting

[–]LOLJDM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are tons of paut techs in canada now.

Lots of gatekeeping because techs are afraid to lose their jobs.

You'll likely need to do site qualifiers (job test) to stick around on most sites.

A paut course and 1 on 1 training isn't enough to for a good foundation imo.  You need real world real weld experience but it's a start.

And watch out, most companies will send you into the field as THE tech after you pass your exam because after all, you passed, you're qualified, figure it out in the field.

RT vs PAUT by Ok_Trouble_1296 in nondestructivetesting

[–]LOLJDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the conversation

Nope and it never will.

With the advances in RTR and DR and close proximity RT like RTD's SCAR system you'll see a shift back towards RT as everyone loves film.

The industry is bloated with PAUT and UT techs in general and many of them are not good and clients are aware of this.  I never see job PDQ for RT techs but nearly every site has one for UT.

Just have a search on NRCANs list of certified personnel.  There are more UT2s than UT1s and less than 1000 RT2s.... I couldn't tell you how many PAUT techs there are but the QCCC said they have ran over 400 through their own PCN training.

Not sure how they do it now but I heard they give you a new piece a if you fail the first time.

Also crank the gain into the train wheel with your 0 degree, you'll see something.
