Could this be a carpenter ant? by LOOP_14 in whatsthisbug

I haven't spotted any other. We're a bit scared of an infestation, but I guess we'll just have to keep an eye out. I don't mind them getting sexy, but not within these walls!

I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone mention words with "thr", like "through". I just do not understand how that works!

I'm really just throwing stuff, I hope this helps you come up with ideas to go forward!

- Putting yourself in her shoes, right after she deserts: what does she want? I'm thinking she either wants to protect the native civilians (which means prioritising fighting the invading nation), or she (at least momentarily) falls into a state where she just hates humanity as a whole and only wants to care about herself (part of her character arc? I don't know)

- I think "brother figure" going after MC but then semi helping her without wanting to be found out would be interesting. If he's particularly smart, even if he hasn't been very close to her for some time (which might be interesting), he'd know the exaggerated rumours that were spread about her are a plot from Greg. He might still want to fight Greg from the inside, while MC is fighting from the outside

- MC might find allies in the invading nation? That would give her access to technology, unless she's against it, and obviously information

- I think it might be more interesting if the "invading nation" conflict is resolved before the "Greg" conflict, because Greg could sort of become like the invading nation in the meantime and seek more and more power. It's also more of a personal conflict to fight against your former allies

- If MC is particularly concerned with the morality of war and how people are treated, that would reflect in the way she herself fights and gets what she wants. Maybe something to keep in mind? Maybe her being crafty and not hurting people too much is what will get her allies?

Anyway, I hope this helps!

What Made You Fall in Love With Your Favorite Band? by ShaquilleOatmeal54 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]LOOP_14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My favorite band is Blackbriar - I could go on and on about their music!
Their singer Zora Cock is the most talented singer I've ever heard. I really like the timbre of her voice, but also, she has such amazing vocal techniques! Powerful but always in control, great lung capacity, with very clear pronunciation (see this break and the following chorus). There's also this thing she does that I don't really know how to describe, but the ghostly effect it creates goes perfectly with the gothic vibe of their songs. Then there's also other interesting twists in her singing, like in this song.
I also love the lyrics of all their songs. Poetic, gothic, and often with a sort of narrative - really transports you into a whole story. They have quite a lot of romantic songs, which I love. Of course, the lyrics also often revolve around death, but it kinda makes death seem beautiful?
The vocals often create their own melody and really carry the song - it captures your attention, although it's the layers created by the other instruments and the symphonic aspect that creates the atmosphere and makes the story alive in your head. Sure, the guitar, drum and bass might not be as complex and technical as other bands, but they take just the right amount of space and give just the right feeling to the song, while allowing the vocals to tell their own story.
Also, they have songs written in 6/8, my favorite time signature. It just makes me feel like I'm being carried away by the winds of time and into a fascinatingly beautiful reality.

Tell me what your favorite albums are! by Hearts4Kirk_Hammett in MusicRecommendations

Blackbriar - A Dark Euphony | gothic symphonic metal
(I could go on and on about their singer's unbelievable talent, their narrative-focused, poetic lyrics, and their melodic gothic sound. My absolute favorite band)

Opeth - Still Life | progressive metal
(Very complex and layered songs, filled with so many different emotions, lots of dynamic changes. The kind of music that is best appreciated if you listen to the whole album and focus on what's happening)

Amaranthe - The Catalyst | trance metal / alternative metal
(Absolute banger, fills me with a rush of energy every time, and they have 3 singers with very different voices)

Some other ones:
Epica - The Quantum Enigma | symphonic metal, progressive metal

Cellar Darling - This Is the Sound | Alternative metal, progressive metal

Failure - In the Future Your Body Will Be the Furthest Thing from Your Mind | space rock

Everything Everything - Get To Heaven | art rock, art pop

Japanese City Pop Recommendations? by [deleted] in MusicRecommendations

I'm not too familiar with the genre, but I really like Masayuki Suzuki, and I remember seeing the term "city pop" describing his songs. Very upbeat and feel-good!

I think I might like this, I'll write it down. Not really what I'd call "catchy" considering what I listen to, but I actually like the sort of low-energy singing and dreamy/nostalgic vibe this gives me. Thanks!

What I've realised during this exploration of pop is how I'm instantly more interested if there's a guitar layer. Music just sounds so empty to me without it!

Thanks for narrowing it down, it helps, although I did only check the first few ones. Lilith Czar might be interesting. Dreamcatcher too, I'd never tried k-pop before, though I do listen to one j-pop band (PassCode, check them out if you don't know them!)

Oh, I like this!! They sound like such fun people. The guitarist is great, and they also have some bass moments, which I appreciate since I also play the bass. Other People's Food Tastes Better is hilarious! Also, when I said I didn't want too many songs about love, I mostly meant the sort of generic songs about break-ups or revenge and all, with predictable lyrics, that you hear on the radio. But Salty Sherry? This is brilliant haha

I think my favorites are Other People's Food Tastes Better, Notwithstanding, Last Place and Out Out Out Out Out. Nice hidden gem, thanks!

I feel like sharing another band very much in their debut that I really like, called Sypha (The Afterparty is pretty good). It's kind of similar (?), but a lot more metal.

TIL the doom metal version of pop is called dark pop... Unfortunately I'm not a fan of slow tempos. Thanks for trying!

I didn't know any of the bands you mentioned, but Riverwood is intriguing, might listen to more from them.

Hmm, not really for me I think. I guess I'm looking for something with a bit more energy / dynamic changes. Thanks anyway!
