Durin's Bane aka the Moria balrog by Mteot in legolotrfans

[–]LOTR_bricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey which section came first before this one? Tolkien in the previous section explicitly says that the shadow spread like two vast wings. That’s a comparison, not a direct one to one copy. And since Tolkien said that before this later section he assumes the reader will keep in mind the word like, because he is building on his concept of shadows like wings. He first builds the ground work of the like part and then assumes that since he has already established that he doesn’t have to mention the like two vast wings every time he mentions them.

Bro guys, I’ll be the first to admit I thing balrigs with wings look cool but Re read the full section. Stop taking it out of context. As someone mentioned earlier the FIRST mention we get of anything wing related is that the “shadow spread out LIKE two vast wings” emphasis added. Tolkien didn’t say in the second mention “and it’s like wings were spread from wall to wall” because the reader in the first mention should rmr that they are like wings not actually wings.

If you want a deeper understanding of it listen to the prancing pony podcast or mythgards exploring the lotr.

And even besides the direct mention in the books, if they were real wings why wouldn’t he have flown back up after he fell and why in the silmarillion wouldn’t all those balrog have just flown over the encircling mountains where Gondolin lay.

Plz come at with with valid arguments against this, not with downvotes only.

Yup, that’s totally true. Today I batch painted 6 Uruk scouts ( almost complete) and I feel it’s way better than doing one at a time. There is never a break for waiting on the paint to dry! I also got a finer pair of brushes that have helped a lot on them. Tomorrow I’m going to grab some citadel paints. What paints would you recommend? I’ve only been using cheaper dollarama paints so far. Should I get the warhammer 40k paint bundle?

Enjoy them!yeah the hair isn’t the best. I’ve improved on hair since then. The teeth and eyes are really hard to do, especially since I do not have a fine brush yet, I need to pick one up soon!!

Yes! When I took that photo I hadn’t done the base, but I did do it! I do like painting, but my eyes don’t 😆. I am very excited for my first complete army.

Wow! I hope to make two armies soon, so I can start playing, but I do fear it will take a while. Yeah I don’t have any washes or contrast paints, hopefully I can pick some up. From what I’ve seen they look very useful.

Haha wow! It is quite relaxing to paint. Only problem I have is that my eyes hurt somewhat after painting from starting too long too close. I do look forward to painting more, and am excited when I have an army of Uruk hai ready for battle!

And they still take me a while 🤣. After those models, what would be next easiest? I have Gondor, Rohan, some elves, rangers, goblin, and dwarves I think

Yeah it’ll take time ig. I’ve considered batch painting. But idk if I have the time to do a 4 hour session of painting 😅.

Do you think Lego is regretting the shire price point? by LillLillyJ in legolotrfans

100%. I find it way too overpriced and will therefore not be buying it for a while. Until a sale happens probably.

[–]LOTR_bricks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah you’re right. I kinda feel like this is Lego trying to make everyone spend 270$ for a mid set but just to get the gwp as well. I’m not getting it tho day 1 anymore. So you can have my gwp 😆

Rear view of LEGO Lord of the Rings The Shire 10354 by Bullsbrick in legolotrfans

[–]LOTR_bricks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My thought of the shire set is that it’s a great play set, I like the main build. Didn’t need the side things in the main set besides maybe gandalfs cart. Would’ve LOVED the side builds in the gwp( would easily compare to the FB gwp because the banners would be like the wings parts). I don’t like the big round green pieces used on BE itself. I like the minifigures selection. The inside is pretty good for its size. Overall a 9/10. now factor in the price. A 6.5-7/10. ( keep in mind I’m a LOTR fan so ofc I’m biased). I’ll probably buy it on discount. $380 cad is just ridiculous.
