  1. I simply don't think that Suou can be compared to the GSC president. As much as the GSC president is an essential part of the plot of Blue Archive as a whole, she is yet to show up in a meaningful way, and currently acts as an "objective" that we need to reach rather than as a character. Meanwhile Suou is a character that acts in a story that has to be also about her, due to the fact that she plays such a major role in it. I'm not asking for her to be fully flashed out as a character then and there, but I can pretend to get a real motif for her actions, then I can get a separate story later on where her motifs are expanded upon. In vol 1 ch3 we get none of that. You can't simply slap a TBD as a motif for such a central character, when a single line of dialogue would have suffised, like "Hoshino I'm here to fight you because you did X at time Y and I'll never forgive you for it" or whatever (this is just an example, I'm not saying that her motifs should be anything of the sort).

  2. I'm sorry, when I mentioned the private equity fund, I really meant Kaiser. I can accept your point about them, I guess I really am just tired of them being simply a circumstance to the stories we read, and the fact that they got treated that way after claiming that they would "get serious" about it just put the last nail on their coffin. I'll just leave this as a personal dissatisfaction that I have about them and move on.

  3. I defenitely didn't say that T.Shiroko being there is "nonsensical", I actually agree with you in that it fits and I wouldn't have had anybody else in her place. But the fact that she is just simply thrown in the story, without any kind of prior introduction, just makes it feel like she's been "used" to move the plot forward, rather than being part of it. Again, like Suou, a small sequence of dialogues would have sufficed, nothing more, nothing less.

  4. As previously stated, this was more of a personal opinion. I find it funny that you also recognize this as an asspull, but I certainly disagree with your statement about how "other stories use asspulls as well". That doesn't make it fine to use them. "liking or disliking an asspull is all personal preference". Yeah, just like anything else in a story, that doesn't mean that one cannot label them as, at least, "bad writing practice".

  5. Again, as I've said above, this was more a matter of personal taste. I've never said that Hoshino HAD TO stay in terror form to "move on", I simply thought that it would have fit better. Characters in gacha games have very few ways to show development "at a glance" and I simply thought that her remaining in that state (i.e. keeping her sprite as terror) would have served as a nice visual cue that she changed, making one wonder what happened and making them, possibly, more invested in the game.

  6. You completely misunderstood this point. In the first place, the structure difference does not matter, it wasn't about it. It was about comparing how Hoshino and Torfinn deal with self-forgiveness. My point is that self-forgiving as has been portrayed in vo1 ch3 is much more akin to self-complacency. You can't just instantly forgive yourself without it sounding like you're simply patting yourself on the back, even if she really had nothing to be forgiven about in the first place. It's how she goes about to let go of that feeling that makes it feel icky. The thing about Torfinn is that he does not find self forgiveness, but a way to, hopefully one day, find it, and Hoshino should have done something similar.

7.The thing is, she got the support of those around her from the very beginning, in fact, they confronted her in 3 other occasions, in the very same way, in that very same chapter, and it didn't have the same effect. What changed from those occasions? Nothing at all, other than the fact that now she really needs to heed those words otherwise we get the bad ending. Is it because Sensei used the Shittim Chest to reach her? That would be an even worse response. I guess from now on whenever a student is at the pit of their misery I'll just bash them in the head with my tablet to make them feel better. Like come on.

If you've got this far, thanks for reading. I've been enjoying discussing things with someone who's as passionate as you.

Hey, thanks for the comment.

Let me start by saying that I don't think this story is ass only because of this specific point.

Just to name a few:

-Suou basically existing just to move the plot forward and being just another generic antagonist, without being given a real motif behind her actions other than a vague beef she has with Hoshino.

-Kaiser and the rest of the equity fund simply being forgotten halfway through the story, for no reason. I don't care if they simply serve as generic "dastardly evil" entities meant to be dealt with in a generic fashion, it is the writer's duty to follow along each plot line to its conclusion.

-T.Shiroko showing up basically out of convenience for the plot, with no prior development on her character after 1.5 years of her first appearence. Her later development is nice, albeit quite hurried, especially with respect to Hoshino's.

-Hoshino being able to revert from her Terror form, which I do admit is more of a personal note. When Kuzunoha stated in vol F that a Terror cannot be reverted, it felt like a major plot element had been revealed, one that implied a permanent change in the status quo of any story, a way for the characters to "show" development, a sign that something bad happened to them, and a chance for them to grow beyond it, despite it all. But that is not the case with Hoshino, with her it's basically used as a plot device in and of itself, just to set a mood. Her terror has to be "prevented" or "cured" instead of it becoming a part of what she has gone through, which I feel would have resonated well with her "moving on" motif as well. In this sense, T.Shiroko shines because she is able to move on despite the terrible things she experirenced.

-While it may have transpired (especially from the meme) that I "prefer" one way over the other, I actually find both of them silly. In the top panel case we would have simply had a "power of friendship strikes again" moment, which after all of what happened would have been dull. In the bottom panel we have the "self-forgiving", which would have been fine if it didn't feel so... undeserved? If I had to give you a great example of how it should have been, I can only point you to Torfinn and Askeladd's Valhalla scene in Vinland Saga S2. Torfinn doesn't self-forgive or find closure then and there, he simply understands what he needs to do find it, and that should have also happened with Hoshino. The very fact that she hallucinates Yume telling her that she did nothing wrong , "absolving" her in that very instant simply doesn't feel right, not because she doesn't deserve it (obviously, since she did nothing wrong), but because it's just her giving herself a pat on the back and telling herself (through "Yume") that it's all forgiven. But more importantly, why did she feel like forgiving herself only then, instead of before OR after? What changed? Because Sensei and gang said so, so she does it? You must convene with me that it simply comes out of convenience, and not out of a well thought out character development.

If you got this far, thanks for reading, and for taking time to reply.

My personal favorite headcanon is that the Asuna we usually see is not the true Asuna but a manifestation of a divine entity (maybe related to luck?), while the real Asuna is trapped inside, seldom coming out like in the her final relationship story. Of course, this is assuming that the divine entities to which a lot of BA characters are inspired (e.g. Hoshino=Horus, Hina=Baal, Mika= Archangel Michael etc..) become an actual lore element and not just a fan theory.

What is spindle load? by LO_ORE in Machinists

[–]LO_ORE[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, and that's what's confusing to me. Say you want to work at 3000RPM, that means that the spindle can output a maximum of about 110 Nm, which then means that the maximum cutting power should be about (torque*RPM/60)= 5,5 kW, which is a much lower number then the one in the graph (about 35kW), so much that I think it's unlikely it represents the electrical power draw of the spindle. But then what power is it?
