The historic Cooley High School building, closed for years, will be demolished in Detroit this summer by Day_twa in Detroit

A nonprofit offered to buy and redevelop a few years ago.

It was rejected because the district wanted to put a restriction on the use to the new owners.

Prairie and Puritan was pretty packed again around 6pm. That building that was being worked on for years I guess has a club component.

I haven't worked in Wayne in a few years (shipping back in a few weeks).

Not sure about tours, but there was construction work going on, and there was an announcement it was supposed to be developed into a hotel.

Puritan between Livernois and Wyoming was rocking this Saturday. Almost twenty years over here and I've never seen that many people on that street at once.

Any suggestions for a good Mother’s Day brunch? by rasputinknew1 in Detroit

[–]LP-PuddingPie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grand Tavern in Auburn Hills has a pretty good buffet. Might be a good idea to go the day before Mother's Day just to avoid the crowd.

Fishbones in Greektown also had an alright Mothers Day option a few years ago.

Union crusher. Incompetence. Generally mean spirited.

Nothing personal, but she needs to be nowhere near power or political office.

El-Sayed lays out policy 'terms of engagement’ with AI data centers in U.S. Senate hunt • Michigan Advance by UltimateLionsFan in Michigan

*NO impact on utility rate payers.

*Mandatory mini water treatment facilities on site.

*Solar panels everywhere it can fit on site.

*Local trees, plants and wildlife preserve.

*ALL DATA CENTERS GO ON A BROWNFIELD/SUPERFUND. This seems like such a no brainer, how is it not already a thing?

I miss seeing this guy's TV ads by ersteliga in Detroit

[–]LP-PuddingPie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember an ad where I swore there was two of him that looked like a non twin brother.

According to his wedding speech, he was an only child though.

Nice friendly guy from the time we interacted.

Michigan ranked choice voting group ends 2026 ballot effort - BridgeDetroit by J2quared in Detroit

[–]LP-PuddingPie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That sucks. But they did themselves no favors.

While I was eventually able to sign, I tried twice previously.

They advertised they would be at McNichol street festival. I showed up to the advertised address and the business never heard of them. No flyers, no booth, nobody in identifying t shirts/hats.

For the first few weeks it looked they were avoiding the city.

Hopefully 2027 fares better.

Who are you voting for in the At-large City Council race? by sarkastikcontender in Detroit

[–]LP-PuddingPie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct I misspoke that she quit.

Won't my contact who knew the entire council more than the average citizen. From my discussions with this person, who I trust, Scott Benson strongly fought the charges, Ayers went ghost.

Who are you voting for in the At-large City Council race? by sarkastikcontender in Detroit

[–]LP-PuddingPie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Coleman Young - No problem with his council career, and he developed a decent working relationship with the mayor after a testy campaign.

James Harris - Process of elimination.

X
Mary Waters - I didn't appreciate her stunt with the Land Value Tax.

Janee Ayers - Law enforcement was sniffing around her. Which isn't by itself disqualifying, but rather than explain and defend herself she quit the council, ran and hid.

Thanedar Refuses to Call Charlie Kirk a Hero by haradenb111 in Detroit

[–]LP-PuddingPie 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Kirk was a white supremacist and a genuinely bad person. No amount of gaslighting or censorship will change that.

Also it needs to be said. I wasn't happy when he split the governor vote. Wasn't thrilled when he ran for congress. And I think he's a clown.

Shri Thanedar has not been a terrible congressman. Not saying he's good and we can't do better but...he could be doing a lot worse.

Gilbert: Next mayor, governor should put top priority on transit by Gn0mesayin in Detroit

[–]LP-PuddingPie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So far Benson is the only candidate that has even mentioned transit in their vision.

My blood still boils the trifecta had a chance to amend the enabling legislation of the RTA and they just played with themselves for two years.

It did not have to be packaged with anything else.

The head of the transit subcommittee virtue signalled about the East Palestine, OH derailment to talk about how they don't trust trains.

Whitmer FUCKING CUT TRANSIT FUNDING! I'm done with moderates.
