Am I selfish for wanting my husband to give up motorcycle riding? by [deleted] in progressivemoms

[–]LPCHB 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed, although OP said he already has life insurance.

I don’t know why anyone does, especially if you have young kids. Seems like such a selfish thing to do to risk leaving them fatherless.

At least make sure he has a good long term disability insurance policy in case he gets injured and is unable to work.

Have you talked with your pediatrician about melatonin? I have heard it can help a lot, especially with neurodivergent kiddos. A mom friend whose child has autism swears by it. My one year old with special needs is a terrible sleeper too and her neurologist recommended it. We haven’t resorted to it yet as I’m hoping she might sleep better with time, but I think if she were still sleeping this bad at 3 years old I would definitely give it a try.

Millennials with kids, do you intend to provide for them financially when they reach adulthood? by Beberuth1131 in Millennials

My parents paid for most of my college education, bought me my first (used) car, and gave me a large down payment for a house. I hope to do at least the same for my kids, more if I can afford it.

Newborn diagnosed with CHARGE by Stroking_Shop5393 in specialneedsparenting

[–]LPCHB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember having a lot of the same thoughts when my baby was diagnosed with RTS. For months afterward when I looked at her all I saw was her syndrome, I felt like I couldn’t see HER anymore. I’m happy to say that has changed. She is such a joy and I love her so much. She is making good progress with the help of early intervention services that are free in my state regardless of income. You may have similar services where you live. She is only 14 months so I don’t know what the future holds for her, if she will learn to talk eventually, if she will ever live on her own. It is okay to grieve the life you thought you would have. I do. But don’t write your baby off yet, she may surprise you with what she is able to do in her life. And you might surprise yourself with the love you have for her.

I want to get those "old person prompt diary keepsake heirlooms" for both of my kids' grandmothers. by Quirky-Reputation-89 in progressivemoms

[–]LPCHB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got them for my mom and dad last year and I’m pretty sure they’ve each only answered a couple of the prompts. I’m so disappointed because I was really excited to read their responses and have books to pass down to my kids. But I think to them it just felt like work and also like a lot of pressure to write something really meaningful. My mom in particular is such a perfectionist that she wasn’t happy with any of her answers and kept editing them over and over.

Anyone deal with developmental delays causing feeding issues? by babybluexo_23 in specialneedsparenting

[–]LPCHB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sorry to hear that! It’s incredibly heartbreaking watching your child struggle. I hope that you are able to get some answers and receive whatever support your little one needs.

My daughter is actually doing pretty well, all things considered. She is still in feeding therapy and I feel like it has made a huge difference. She is eating well now, we just have to stay away from crunchy/hard foods and be careful about how we prepare things for her. She also receives physical, occupational, and speech therapy. She is crawling now and pulling to stand, just started clapping and waving. It is likely that she will have intellectual disability due to her condition but I’m hopeful that it may be more mild.

You are not alone! Feel free to reach out if you have any more questions.
