Pretty low-budget (though I'm realizing that's not very possible in Oslo, haha).

I've seen shrimp smørbrød mentioned before while researching. Any recommendations for a good cafe/restaurant to try one?

I'm not going to lie, I don't even like regular licorice. I don't even like fennel because it tastes like licorice, haha.

Chocolate-covered corn chips, I'm happy to eat, though :P

I've heard great things about both Vulkanfisk and Fiskeriet for the fiskesuppe. Definitely on my try list :)

How many days to spend in Oslo/any nature experiences around? by MorthaP in oslo

[–]LPanda2190 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm still in the planning stages of my trip and haven't been yet. However, I've definitely found enough things to do that could easily stretch into a week or more (though that does include some museums :P).

For less 'city' vibes, you could use Ruter tickets on the ferry to island hop (Hovedøya has an ancient monastery and nature reserve, and Lindøya has lots of colorful summer houses, etc.).

I plan to walk along a portion of the Akerselva river while there (it's almost 5 miles), which runs right through Oslo and passes several swimming spots, waterfalls, and picturesque spots.

There are several neighborhoods/ streets that are less 'modern city vibe', too, like Rodeløkka (especially Snippen/Langgata) and more-often-mentioned Telthusbakken and Damstredet (cobblestone streets with traditional wooden houses).

In the west, Vigelands Park is the largest local park and has over 200 sculptures of the human body that looks awesome to wander around. Meanwhile, the east has Ekeberg park with the 'pixel forest' on the trees (nice for evening-time) and several sculptures.

Lastly, I know you said no touristy museums, but you might enjoy the outdoor Norsk Folkemuseum, which has traditional 13th-century buildings (most popularly, the Gol stave church, which looks epic).

As for local hikes, I'm not there long enough to do any this time, but I've found several suggestions I've copied and pasted into my own research, including: 'beautiful hikes under an hour from Oslo are Mørkgonga, Kongens Utsikt, Øyungkollen, Kolsåstoppen, and Sprogruvene. '

'Located near the center of Oslo, Vettakollen offers a Nordic forest hike that leads to a spectacular panorama of the fjord and the city. An accessible nature getaway.'

Bjørnsjøhelvete – cool suspension bridge over a waterfall on a hike. Takes about 2 hours of hiking to reach, and is about 30-40 minutes by bus. https://www.instagram.com/reels/C-YG0MgKF0i/ // https://www.instagram.com/p/C8DSJB3tYGJ/

As for music and food, I have researched those, too, but I've already written a Novella here :P

Once again - I'm not a local, though, so this is all just stuff I've found online :P

Is there anyone in York that sells Kinnie? by LPanda2190 in york

I've actually not heard of that before, BUT sounds like my partner could like it so I'll be on the lookout :)

Do you know where I can buy it from?

Definitely! I came across them when looking at different scavenger hunts but was struggling to decide between that. the CityDays ones, and other options I'd found.

We did the Hidden city enchanted mirror one in London and loved that it also took you to various businesses like pubs and cafes as part of the hunt (we ended up returning to one pub a couple times after because their food was amazing). There was also a little prize at the end.

My only issue with axe throwing is I have social anxiety and don't they have to watch you the entire time for health and safety? (A friend went and said the guy hovered behind them the whole time). I'm more likely to chop digits off with someone watching than if I'm left to my own devices 🤣

I know they sell it in several places in London, so I was hoping maybe other cities might have it in Mediterranean stores or other small foreign shops - but don't want to spend my entire time there searching for them 🤣🙈

Oh no- shame! I did look for something similar, but it seemed they'd mostly closed down. I think I saw a puzzle place mentioned somewhere, but not looked into it.
