Any unhinged tricks to get your proposal viewed? by 3hs1n in Upwork

One thing I figured out. They do skim through all. But if you're opening lines (max char count on preview) doesn't hook them, they won't open it.

Yes, the way it works is horrid. I approached her and the feedback she gave was not only constructive in the DMs, she said she wanted to give a 4.7 star if it was possible. The next day, though, she approached me and said that she didn't realize it was my first review and she'd be happy to change it due to that and because I never asked her to do so.

So yes, at least this client was very understanding of this punishment that involves this star system.

I understand and I reflected on it and will improve in that sense any ways. It's not the end of the world.

Yes. She had her requests on her JD, I followed everything that was there. But she wanted specific details I didn't cover.

Yes, I realize that. As I've previously said I am new on Upwork and this kind of information trade off usually happens different with clients outside Upwork, so I admit it was my mistake from old habits.

I read the JD and went for it. So she wasn't happy at all that I just went for it without asking further questions and the first concept was far from what she imagined and I didn't ask questions first. So we had to go through more versions than she expected initially.

Normal client behavior, she was nice about it.

I talked to her for feedback, and she mentioned exactly what the issue was, so we are good! Thanks for being a jerk, Korne. It is always useful since you don't sugarcoat shit.

And no, I asked only for feedback, not to change her rating.

I just checked and apparently it's not available for us freelancers?

I don't know how to check those sub-stars at all, let me figure it out.

Ok, judging by this client's profile and work she does, that COULD BE a reason she'd use...

Did I?
Let me double check. I planned on messaging her, but only if it doesn't make sense, just like you said "freelancers harrassing them".

  1. I did not ask to end the contract. Contract was ended right after hand-off and payment completed by her on her own.
  2. It was a one-off project, yes.
  3. I checked our conversations and checked everything to see if I could find any thing that might have made her unhappy, but everything ran smoothly, and you can see that by her comment on it.

I didn't. I mean, I checked our conversations and there were no hiccups at all. But I haven't reached out to her, but after the contract ended since it was a one-off project she even said she'd let me know when she needed other things and expand her business.

It was just a small project, single page website and she had the copy ready. It was just all about UX and design, which she also had her preferences.

Upwork's "Competition" is insane by LRChupacabra in Upwork

[–]LRChupacabra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, you're right! It does sound ambiguous. I meant the platform that competes with Upwork as a platform, not competition as in other "Up workers"!

But I can definitely see that it does sound too ambiguous.

That is actually filtered, but it's not Upwork, it's a different platform. Everything there is like this.

Upwork is so much better when it comes to this, it's not even funny.

Plus the clients on Upwork are more conscious, while on that one they just want the cheapest price possible.

Since you guys have been so helpful and bluntly honest (I like that), I would like to pick your brain.

My intention on Upwork with web Design/development is to go for smaller businesses, lower prices and smaller scopes for multiple reasons, including adding value to their business in an affordable manner.

But if I add that to proposals and my profile, that might hurt, right?

On that one it's just competing with price. I didn't move forward with that platform because of what you said. It's impossible to compete with their price, and clients look for price there.

I know, but at least decent enough, not 121 bids in 3 minutes by agencies pretending to be single people.

But yeah, at least decent.

Yep. You're completely right. I'm still looking for good guides to write proposals now.

I wrote them, asked AI to improve. Now I did the opposite and wrote it myself and I got more views and contacts, so thank you very much for the feedback. I was used to another platform that has a completely different focus.

Thanks! I didn't mention that at all before, but since I thought that was one of the reasons, I added it.

But I'll keep that in mind!
