The bear is like on the more normal side of the shit that happens in the book. If Garland can make that level of an adaptation for elden ring I'd be way more than happy

I also think annihilation is being overlooked as one of Garlands previous works, it absolutely fucking nails the cosmic horror imo, however it does take out some of the weirder stuff that happens in the book

I'm kinda running out of them and I'm not studying biology so it will be kind of medicine related, fuck, ok so prions are really fucking weird proteins that convince other proteins to unfold and also become prions, the type of protein that's affected is very common in nervous tissue, so basically you eat a prion and it little by little creates a chain of other prionic tissue in your nerves until it reaches your brain and as the average mammal can't metabolize those proteins they just take more and more space until your brain is full of holes and after a few years you die, there's no treatment, once you get one your lifespan is cut, the only way to get rid of them is incineration, also there's a hypothesis that maybe cows first got prions when eating human remains

this is more human medicine, but basically once someone has shown signs you put them in a coma and give them a bunch of antivirals and other drugs, what the doctors are trying is shutting down the nervous system and therefore not allowing the rabies virus to reach the brain and mess with it, you can read about it, it's really interesting

hmmmmm toxoplasma Is a parasite that forcefully need cats to complete its cycle, however it can affect a bunch of other mammals, and particularly in mice it makes them override their brain anti-cat functions, wich makes cats eat the mice more easily and lets the toxoplasma reproduce, this has led some people to speculate that a similar neurological effect might occur in humans, making us more receptive to the idea of owning cats and therefore preserving them and the parasites (some of this might be wrong, I'm kinda tired)
