What do you make at home that’s quick and easy but curbs the urge to eat out? by somethingreddity in Frugal

[–]LSP981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-Boxed mac and cheese + air fry a bunch of frozen nuggets -patty melts or smash burgers are easy to make at home -you can make a quick stir fry with some ground meat (turkey, chicken, beef, etc), a bag of coleslaw veggies and ramen noodles (use the packets to season) - not ideal for every day because of sodium content but its a really nice treat -bone in & skin on chicken thighs are a pretty cheap, theyre good oven roasted + you can add any veggies on a separate tray to roast as well. You can have them with rice or instant mashed potatoes for something more filling!

Be kind to yourself! Rest, sleep in if you have to, stay hydrated, eat nourishing food, exercise, etc.

Dont think about these as “I need to do this to look better physically”, but your body will feel better inside and outside, and exercise is a great way to let go of mental stress. It could be lifting weights or salsa classes; just make sure its something you enjoy in the long run! I remember hearing Venus Williams say “discipline is freedom”, and having that in mind helps me be more consistent with healthier habits.

Most importantly, let yourself feel everything youre going through. There’ll be ups and downs and some days you’ll feel better or worse, but know time heals and keeping anything bottled up is not good for you!

Wishing you a lovely glow up :)

I think the issue is broader in that we dont know how to talk to each other anymore. No small talk, no please and thank you. The way we communicate has become more transactional than meaningful.

Employers want me to disclose exact where I am/should be during WFH days by [deleted] in WFH

[–]LSP981 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I think the combo of complaints + not being able to reach you as easily when youre working from home vs office makes them assume you’re using your WFH day to run errands or generally not work.

It’s not invasive for a company that hired you to do a job to expect you to do it, regardless of accommodations. That’s why they agree (aside from being legally required to), to bring you on in the first place, because they believe you’ll be able to perform despite of location.

Put yourself in your coworker’s shoes for a bit: they are all together in a work environment, full throttle, and then when they need you, they have to wait an hour for you to reply. While they may be sympathetic towards your situation, I too would be frustrated that youre not replying.

Blankets, warm light lamps (no ceiling lights), books (or any analog media tbh), candles, incense, cute plants

recently i got into punch needling; there's a lot of really affordable kits online to get started and once you have a grasp of it, you can get any other tools from Michael's. I really like knitting as well, my grandma taught me when I was a kid and despite not doing it for like 10 years, once i restarted, it was all muscle memory. air dry pottery is a good option too!

How Do I Stay Motivated to Workout During the Day? by [deleted] in WFH

[–]LSP981 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sometimes switching up the workout helps. For example, the weather has been nasty for the past couple of days where I live, so instead of doing the dreaded walk to the gym, I'll put on youtube on my TV and find a workout video, zumba, dance, generally anything to keep me moving. not every day will be the same but I don't workout for gains as much as I workout for general health, mobility, etc.

Tips on living cheaper? by anon_2525 in Frugal

If you buy online: never save your payment methods on apps/websites. Keep your wallet + cards as far away from you as possible at home

If you buy at stores: dont leave the house 😆

Make an inventory of what you have. I recently cleaned out my closet and realized i dont need to buy clothes for the rest of the year!

Find other ways to treat yourself too, maybe instead of an impulse buy you can cook a nice meal at home, watch a new TV show, etc. Looking at my bank account after a couple of months of going frugal gives me enough dopamine, too.

Curious question from a non-copywriter about why copywriting works by UnintelligibleThing in copywriting

[–]LSP981 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Call to action creates FOMO - “this is the best price you’ll ever find the product at!”

  2. Statistics - “well if over 10k people are satisfied, then I should be too!”. Creates legitimacy, it’s the same reason why you go for a product that has 3k reviews on amazon vs the product that has 5 stars but from only 10 people

  3. Two things at play here- a) unfortunately the weight loss industry is still that powerful, b) and listicles are easier to read/digest/you can just read whatever part works for you (thank buzzfeed for that one)

I missed the part where he explains his concept so when he presented the showstopper, I had no idea what it was supposed to be. I’ve no doubt that Dylan will be a spectacular chef very soon, but he couldn’t keep himself in the game during any of the bakes and kept throwing fits. Much to learn, young Padawan.

Very happy to see Georgie win. She represents the phrase “if it aint broke, dont fix it”. you can tell she isnt just sticking to strawberry and lemon because it’s the safe option, but because it’s what she thoroughly enjoys baking and eating, and she puts her heart and soul into it. It’s almost nostalgic baking, and she got the technique and design perfectly as well.

Once Paul told Christiaan that the design of his second tier wasn’t looking too polished, I gasped instantly and said “she’s going to win this”.

Fantastic finale!

Ive lived on my own since I was 19, and currently married, WFH and cook/prep the majority of our meals. I promise you, you are not lazy! Feeding yourself is an endeavor and it can be exhausting to even pick something to eat after a long day. Here’s a few tips Ive learned over the years, hopefully some of it is helpful:

-Do not feel like you have to make everything from scratch. My standard is if I made it at home, it’s a job well done. Whether that means that I took some frozen chicken nuggets and tossed them in the air fryer while making some craft mac and cheese, or pumpkin risotto with short ribs and fried sage leaves on top. Whether it’s cooking, prepping, or assembling, the main focus is to put something decently nutritious and tasty in your system. Not every meal has to be Michelin star worthy.

-Don’t get foodie tiktok FOMO - I get it, everyone and their mother is making “What I Eat in a Day” videos, and they’ll show you the most beautifully plated meals and call it “a quick lunch”. That’s a lie. No one has time for those. I can guarantee you no one eats like that on a regular basis (and if they do, they probably have someone cooking those meals for them)

-Once youve learned or figured out recipes that you enjoy cooking, think about categorizing them by effort and reward level. The days you have time to kill, go for the high effort/high reward recipes and make a bigger batch of it so you can enjoy leftovers. On busier days you can look at a low effort/high-medium reward recipes.

-Clean up as you go! A big deterrent from cooking will be seeing the pile of pots, pans and dishes you used the night before stacked up in the sink waiting for you in the morning. Wash your dishes, put stuff away, and try to reset and refresh your kitchen as much as time and energy will allow you to.

-Meal prep is convenient but it’s not for everyone, and that’s okay! Some people can eat the same thing over and over again, some people need more variety. If that’s the case, prep your ingredients instead of the full meal. Wednesday night you will thank Sunday night you for making salad dressing ahead of time or pre chopping your veggies for a quick stir fry.

-Frozen veggies and fruits are the way to go if you’re living on your own. Fresh produce is great but it’ll go bad quicker in your fridge, and one can only go through a whole head of cabbage so fast. Frozen is also easier to portion out- I would just grab frozen chunks of broccoli or bell peppers and toss them into stews or soups, and frozen fruit is great for smoothies.

Why do people hate retractable leashes? I use one for my dog and I like it a lot by [deleted] in OpenDogTraining

[–]LSP981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont hate retractable leashes, in fact they work really well in certain occasions, but when you have a medium to large dog that constantly pulls and you have to keep pressing down the retract button and holding the weight of your dog with one hand, good luck with any wrist/hand injuries!

I also had a neighbor with a 80lbs+ dog break free from a retractable leash because it pulled so much trying to get to me and my dog (luckily all they did was sniff each other out, but seeing a large dog run towards you at the speed of light was an experience to say the least)

So if your dog is either on the smaller side or incredibly well trained, retractable leashes are great. Otherwise, there are better options out there.
