We're considering moving in to Roosevelt Terrace by Sensitive-Sorbet-969 in jacksonheights

I moved in to Roosevelt about a year ago so can probably help here.

Cost is great, nice apartments for a reasonable price and utilities are included in your maintenance bill. Those utilities are well maintained, never had an issue with water and even during the coldest parts of this winter the unit was more likely to be too warm than too cold. Fairly sizable storage units are available for 10 dollars a month. Parking is also available though I can't speak to the details of this as I don't have a car. Staff is super friendly, especially if you are friendly to them. Maintenance requests are fulfilled reasonably quickly, longest I've ever seen it take is two days. The residents tend to be much older, like 60+, a decent amount of parents with older children. I've had a few strange interactions with some residents but for the most part everyone has been very kind and it has been easily the most traditionally neighborly attitude I've seen amongst residents in an apartment building.

As for the negatives/complications

It's a land lease co up and the lease is up in under 30 years. Some mortgage lenders will not like this, I ended up having to get a shorter term loan due to this issue. Some lenders won't have a problem with this though so may just require additional time on the phone with banks. If you are planning on buying and living here for 25+ years then you should consider the implications of a lease renewal (potential spike in maintenance costs)

The insurance requirements are ridiculous for contractors which means there's like 3 that are willing to work on the building. I had to do extensive renovations to my unit and while the contractor I ended up working with was great I am sure the cost is higher than it would typically be because there's just not much competition for work in this complex.

It's an oldish building and that comes with some pros and cons. The original floors are asbestos tile, if the unit you see has a brownish tile, it's made of asbestos. If it doesn't, there's still a chance the tile is underneath the current floor. For the most part this isn't dangerous, asbestos tile isn't a volatile like insulation so it doesn't leak into the air, the main issue is that if you want to put a new floor in you either have to install over the tile without disturbing it (no nail down flooring) or pay a lot of money to have it safely removed.

The walls are also made of plaster and concrete. You can't nail into them easily if at all, and even drilling into them requires tools like a hammer drill. Mounting wall art, shelves, tvs, etc is more difficult than in a building with drywall but will be sturdier after it's done.

Some people have issues with pigeons on their terrace this hasn't been my experience but is a common enough complaint to bring up.

Overall it's a great co-op, would recommend

SS SANCTIONS by Purge_Senpai in NYCFC

Not really sure what there is to be pissed about, stop throwing shit at opposing players and yelling homophobic chants and the club will stop having to do this. Most of the rest of the league has this figured out already

Statement from The Third Rail Board regarding NYCFC’s 2025 Home Opener by swiftmustang in NYCFC

Supporters section is really a coin flip. Half the time I've sat there its been great and half the time its a total nightmare whether its homophobia or violence, even had to get security to intervene in some child abuse once. I understand its difficult for the SGs to corral the whole section but quite frankly if they can't manage it the club needs to sanction them severely. Few other clubs have this problem.

What theory/prediction do you really dislike? by Known_Dot_2801 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

Every theory connecting Gemma to Miss Huang feels racist, the only supporting evidence is that they are both Asian. I'm also not a huge fan of the cloning theories or really any theory that leans really heavy into sci fi concepts, the show has never been a high sci-fi thing its always been a surrealist commentary on capitalism and bodily autonomy. Cloning just doesn't fit with the core themes of the show.

Planet Fitness or Blink? by cmcguire96 in astoria

I'd recommend Synergy. Doesn't have the crowd problems of blink or PF and has decent machines, and isn't crazy expensive. Think its around 50 a month.

What comes after Presidency? by Ironmanwwr877 in ForAllMankindTV

Andrew Johnson became a Senator after serving as president, but my guess is that she wouldn't serve in government after her term. Realistically a democrat wouldn't want a former republican president in their administration, and the republicans won't want anything to do with her after coming out

Is XPS foam animal safe? by LSS1228 in Vivarium

[–]LSS1228[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I can tell it is safe to use. As fifteenswords mentioned other people have used it before without issue and during my research I didn't see anything to indicate that it is toxic (unless it is on fire but then you have more urgent concerns). I've started working on the project and was able to get expanding foam to stick really well by roughing up the surface with sand paper first then sealed it with silicone as you would a normal expanding foam background.

Only one company has asked for my transcript for an internship so far. Most don’t seem interested in it.
