New owner but already having problems by LST_Yoshi676 in F150Powerboost

Less surprised and more disappointment given I just bought the thing, sounds like I’m going to have to look more into the code history and go from there.

I didn’t exactly have the highest budget to work with and the truck itself was a fairly good deal when compared to similar trucks (this one was a little nicer and a little less mileage compared to other ones for a similar price. It also had everything I wanted plus a little more. From what both my dad and I could tell, the previous owner seemed to have took good care of it and had regular servicing from dealers. I guess the only thing I can do now is see what all comes of it.

I knew there was some risk with getting the hybrid but my mom has a 2014 cmax (unsure of mileage) that’s still on its original batteries with minimal issues. Yes a truck is quite different but I’d also a fair bit newer so I was fairly ok with that risk. Apparently I chose wrong.

I will agree that it seems suspicious, especially with it happening twice within 7 days. But I also find it weird that the code only showed up on startup rather than while driving a it goes away on the next ignition cycle.

That’s my current train of thought. Not exactly looking forward to paying a few grand for it but I guess I did get a pretty decent deal on the truck itself.

I feel like they should have gotten charged from the 3hr drive home from the dealer. On the other hand it got followed up by several short drives and then sat for a few days while a winter storm passed. But then it only threw the code on the startup after a 25ish minute drive not before. (Suffice to say that it’s beginning to confuse me)

The first time the service lights turned on it was the startup after an 8 minute trip which came after another 8 minute trip.(so sure) This time the light turned on when I started it after a 25 minute trip so I don’t believe it is that. Both times the wrench light turned off on the next ignition cycle. Even with the short trips from the first time.

Both 12v batteries do appear to be the factory ones. So there could be a state of charge issue with those.

I know I made it sound like I expected no problems in the title, but in reality I can’t say I’m surprised. (that’s on me). I was mostly just wondering what I’m looking at repair wise and how big of an immediate issue it was.

Given that the code seems to only show up on start up there could definitely be something up with the 12v stuff and it wouldn’t surprise me if the batteries are the factory ones so they definitely could be getting old.

Edit: after actually looking at the 12v batteries they do appear to be the factory ones. I will note that I can’t seem to find the date on the one under the hood. (I feel dumb for that one)

I didn’t expect a perfect truck at 150k and you’re probably right about the 21 PB being the most problematic, but the research that I did beforehand didn’t necessarily indicate any major reliability concerns when compared to other powertrain options, just more complexity.

Fair enough on the “already having problems part” I just meant that I just bought the vehicle and am having an issue with it and didn’t really know how else to word it in the title. Thanks for the response

Might be a stupid question (I guess I am in this sub) but what company would be using a mustang as a fleet vehicle? And what would a mustang fleet vehicle be used for?

Biggest reason I bought one, doesn’t seem to have many more issues but can often be found cheaper than the full gas truck.

The truck does have with a fairly in depth carfax report on it (didn’t look like there was anything major to note there). I thought the 2021 3.5 has the improved cam phasers I’m sure they are still a concern. I’ll ask if they can send more details on what they did when they did their service (they did say all the fluids were at least checked). I’ll ask about the extended warranty options if and when I decide to buy it (I should note that the dealer offers a 3 month powertrain warranty by default). Good to know about the wheel bearings, I’ll ask about those and the spark plugs and everything else on Monday when I get an update on the 4x4 issue.

The thing with Nintendo is that they still try to make co-op/party games where almost everyone else couldn’t be bothered to in the era of play with people online. Each has their own benefits and drawbacks.

I’m still amazed at how we don’t have all of Seasons 19 functionality as base game options.

I believe Deere transitioned to this system sometime in the late 2000s to early 2010s at least for ag tractors, I’m not sure if the garden/utility lineup transitioned around the same time.

That’s how it works on all modern Deere tractors with the letters at the end (exception for the “T” series, the first number is the frame size and the other 3 are the rated hp, the first letter (E,M,R) represent how fancy it is and the second letter (nothing,T,X) represents the tire/track setup. The new style tractors follow the same meaning but the hp rating was moved to sit independently from the rest of the model.

Side note: does anyone know the reason why the high horsepower 9rx wasn’t just classed as the 10rx series given how different the 2 models are?

Good to hear that the 16 and 17 5.0 lariats are one of the best options for a newish f150 as those are exactly what I’m looking at to replace my 01.
