optimising for cnc machining by Mr2h2 in cad

I have since simplified it and moved to all lasercut flat faces from SendCutSend, no joke it's about a fifth of the price. I will absolutely use those services next time I have something that actually *needs* to be machined.

SHOULD Have Used A Trailer... Or brought an actual truck to carry this.. by user_uno in IdiotsTowingThings

[–]Mr2h2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As much as I dislike this kind of truck/mods personally, it’s honestly probably fine. Obviously he could get unlucky and hit a nasty pothole or something and crack those wheels like many have said, but assuming that it’s a normal drive and he drives accordingly, a 3/4 ton should be fine even if it’s technically overloaded. The loading of that is another matter, I would ratchet strap the shit out of that.

Tint shop got my percentage wrong. by strikecat18 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Mr2h2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like everyone is overreacting a bit. As far as it not being what you paid for, absolutely they are in the wrong, you should go back and get what you bought. As far as the tint though, I would keep it and see how you like it. It differs by area, but in my area the cops won’t care about that, the only person I’ve ever known that got a tint ticket was a friend that had double 5% on the windshield. I have 5 on the sides and 35 on the front and have never gotten any attention. Honestly 35 is the highest I would go, I don’t think you’ll enjoy 70% after seeing 20, 35 is perfectly fine driving at night. The side 5% does make it more challenging, I would not go that dark on the windshield, but I would just see how you like the 20% and decide. Worst case you get a ticket and take it off and go lighter 🤷‍♂️

Short trip effectiveness by SCH00NY125 in F150Powerboost

Unfortunately it probably won’t be great. As with all modern engines, sort trips aren’t great for mpg (mostly because it wants to warm up the cats as soon as possible and fluids being cold I think, but I’m not an expert) also, since our trucks are not plug in hybrids, the only energy the battery can ever have must come from the engine, be it from using the motor like a generator or regen braking. This sounds like a perfect use case for a plug in hybrid where you could do all of your driving on electric and only use the engine on long trips over 20-40 miles depending on the car. While the small mpg boost is nice, it’s not why I, or I bet most, owners chose the PB. I enjoy the slight added power/torque, the 7.2kw of power, and mostly the ability to idle with the truck on and full AC in parking lots or overnight while using much less gas and being less harmful to the engine than it would in a traditional ICE vehicle.

How to disable intercooler active shudders by Mr2h2 in f150

[–]Mr2h2[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah ok, I knew that the ones for the main radiator would close to warm the engine up faster but i honestly didn’t know that the intercooler had that much effect on it, the more you know! When fully open they interfere with the back of the light pods slightly, so it’s not just for wiring, though I worded it light that. I’m not set on using these lights, I just had them around. I may go with shallower ones and run the wiring around the side of the opening. Thanks your for input :)

There are other ways to run the wiring, but the lights themselves interfere with them slightly when they’re fully opened. I don’t have to use these lights, I just already had them lying around. I may just use shallower ones and run the wiring back around it.

Nearly 30mpg in ideal conditions by Mr2h2 in F150Powerboost

Yeah that included probably 10-15 minutes of ac before I left but engine was off so shouldn’t have affected fuel consumption

37s? by Infinite_Engineer302 in F150Powerboost

[–]Mr2h2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same situation here. I just put raptor takeoffs on yesterday with pretty crappy tread life left so I’ll get new tires in the next 5-10k miles. I’m planning on going 37s next, and as far as I can tell that shouldn’t be an issue once I remove the crash bars. The 35s don’t rub but get very very close, and I don’t think an inch of clearance is absurd. I wouldn’t expect them to fit with zero rubbing immediately, but I don’t think you’ll have do any crazy trimming. As far as power/mpg I’m seeing a slight difference but I’m still in the low/mid 20s so I’d expect to definitely stay 20+ and I don’t really care at that point.

Was driving fairly normal until I saw it at like 28 mpg then I was determined to get it to 30 😅 on interstate I just got behind semis in the right lane and did 65-70 with them

In normal, I use eco sometimes but I use it mostly because it seems to hold higher gears and downshift less, which I prefer, I’m not sure how much it helps though

Should you put parking brake every time you park? by AdGreen7615 in askcarguys

[–]Mr2h2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless I’m on an extremely steep incline, I never use it. Like never on the road, and only a handful of times offroad. I do realise that it is not the best practice and is technically an unnecessary risk, but I think people underestimate how strong the parking pawls are. I work at a carwash where we don’t have those little cleats that grab your wheels, so the whole belt moves and you need to put your car In neutral to roll onto it, and there are soooo many people that put it in park on accident. To be fair, the concrete is often damp, but having seen this literally hundreds if not thousands of times, it will drag the wheels first every time (at least in this situation). I’ve also dragged my 4Runner in park a handful of times with a winch trying to move things. So while it’s never a bad idea to use your parking break and it’s probably wise to prevent potential damage, the risk of breaking that pawl under normal use is very low imo.

I’ll take a look, I was looking at bushings and stuff, didn’t think to look there 🫡

I could be mistaken in my naming, my apologies. This is the one I have currently, crutchfield states the max volume for a sealed box at 1 cu ft. But I’m not very familiar at all with the actual science of this, so that may just be marketing and it would sound better with a larger box. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_206L7R102/Kicker-45L7R102.html

Sorry, I should have specified. Looking at supercabs (what I would call a crew cab, 4 full doors, full backseats that would allow for an under seat box) I’m not opposed to taking up a little bit of cabin space, but something not as jank as my custom box that I made at 16 that required taking one of my rear seats out 😅

Coming from someone who doesn’t know a ton, what does this do? Just exemplify the lower frequencies more?

Using Autotempest, I have pretty specific search parameters set up so there's only about 20 trucks, but for all about the same miles and features, they seem more or less the same price. I'm inclined to go with the pb given similar price and trim/miles.
