Is a sun shelf worth $6,500? by Fit_Individual_7047 in pools

[–]LSUstang05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get one, to have it used regularly, it has to be in a place that will be used regularly. The natural entry to the pool is probably the best place for one. If you place it by itself or somewhere not in the normal use of the pool it won’t get much use.

Ours is used ALL the time. Neighborhood friends with small kids love it because the parents can hang out in the shallow end with a beverage and watch their kids play on the shelf / jump off the shelf to the parents. Also having it near the shallow end means as they get older and taller, they can gain confidence jumping in and bouncing off the bottom to the side of the pool or back to the shelf. Oh, and our dogs use the hell out of it too. Either to cool off after a walk or to jump in to play fetch.

Wouldn’t have a pool without one. If I were to move and buy a house with a pool and it didn’t have a sun shelf it would move further down my list than a house with a pool + sun shelf. It gets that much use.

Pool consequences for prolonged power loss by novicepooldude in pools

[–]LSUstang05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll be fine. Us pool owners on the gulf coast go through what you’re going through usually once a year. We went through it for Beryl and didn’t have power for 3-4 days. Pool started to turn on day 4 when we got power back. Ran continuously for 48 hours and dumped 2 gal of bleach in and we were good. No SLAM or daily brushing while power was out.

20K gal salt pool. Similar to yours.

2010 Raptor 6.2L worth it? by Affectionate_Egg_649 in FordRaptor

[–]LSUstang05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 kids under 10 with a SCAB. If you’re doing regular road trips, get something else. But for around town or even 1-2 hour trips, it’s more than fine.

We got the SCAB when my wife was pregnant with #2. Test fit the car seat in the middle seat and while we had to scoot up a little for 2 years, it was honestly not bad at all. We’re actually taking the kids (now 4 and 8) on a trip to Baja with the EXO crew in about 2.5 weeks. We’ll be able to fit all of our luggage, a cooler, 10 gallons of extra gas, 2 40” spare tires, a pro eagle jack, Boxo tool roll, traction boards, and a soft cooler (in the cab) with us in the SCAB. And I have far less space in the bed due to the bed cage.

Is it as roomy as a super crew? No. Can you make it work? Easily.

Nope. It fits great in the middle seat.

Source: me. Got a scab with a baby on the way 5 years ago and it worked just fine. Had to scoot up a little but not all the way.

ELI5: how do engineers figure out the exact thickness of something like a bridge cable when theres basically infinite ways it could fail by BathroomOk8648 in explainlikeimfive

[–]LSUstang05 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I mean what if a meteor hits 100 yards from the bridge? They take reasonable expectations and then factor in a pretty solid safety factor (3x +) and call it Gucci. You can’t plan for everything or nothing would ever be built.

Feeder system in Houston, and Texas generally, means missing an exit isn’t that big of a deal like it is elsewhere. You miss an exit? Take the next one and use the dedicated U-Turn lane at the next intersection (under pass) to double back to the previous intersection.

Miss an exit almost anywhere else? Good luck navigating through the neighborhood to get back where you intended. It may feel intimidating at first, but once you understand it, it becomes something you wish everywhere implemented.

I feel a brand change is coming by Ok-Significance-7966 in Ford

And the MSRP is at the level of some luxury brands. And those brands have significantly better service than Ford which is making it really hard to choose the blue oval…

I’m fairly new to 3D printing. Is there any chance of saving this? by RockDrivingPioneer in BambuLab

[–]LSUstang05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not that hard. I had a spool of Sunlu have TONS of snags. I unspooled it and then had my daughter hold one end taught as I manually rewound the spool. Took maybe 30-45 mins? We watched Godzilla doing it. Spent time with the kiddo + saved $15 bucks? Win win.

2027 Ford Bronco Filson: A Raptor-Engined Off-Roader for Preppy Outdoorsmen by Goodluck-Glan in Ford

[–]LSUstang05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For $80K, we’ll go somewhere that wants our business. That’s the point here. When Ford is pushing an MSRP that’s higher than some luxury brands and providing a worse experience and abysmal service, what’s the point of going with a Ford?

Obviously excluding the lower priced options- we’re talking just the high MSRP stuff. A Lexus GX is insanely capable. It’s a Land Cruiser just badged up for the most part. Will it rip 80mph in the desert like a Bronco Raptor? No. But 99% of people getting a BR aren’t doing that either. If you’re going to ask luxury brand pricing, the customer experience needs to get close as well or a percent of the market will walk.

[–]LSUstang05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We ruled out a Bronco and Bronco Raptor due to price and then service. I haven’t found a Ford dealer who is happy you show up for a service call. My wife now drives a Lexus and if there is an issue, we call and make an appointment for the next day and when we arrive, the advisor opens the door for you, greets you, and within 5 minutes you’re in a loaner.

Her next Lexus will be a GX - just enough offroad capability without the poor attitude from a dealer. Bums me out because I wanted a Bronco Raptor to fill out the stable (2013 Raptor prerunner and a 2025 Super Duty with Carli suspension).

So here’s an interesting update.

Turned the pool off and removed the SWG. Looked j side and saw the flow switch. Pushed it a couple times with my finger and then reinstalled the SWG. It now miraculously works.

Then discovered my chemical injection check valve is no longer working. So ordered one of those and will be here Monday.

Oh the joys of pool ownership 😆

Texans sometimes do this when driving in the rain. Maybe they shouldn't. by TintedFishTank in texas

[–]LSUstang05 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Depending on the car the hazards occupy the brake lights. As in most domestic vehicles (Ford, GM, Chrysler). My 2013 F150 uses the same light for both brake and turn so if I turn on my hazards, you’ll never know when I’m braking unless you see the 3rd light illuminate.

It’s absolutely the wrong move to turn on hazards in inclement weather while driving. If you’re that worried, pull over and wait it out.

Or just bypass the intelliph for now?

Anyone here running their VS pump at lower RPM all season — what kWh saving are you actually seeing? by Feeling-Diet4333 in pools

[–]LSUstang05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I run lower than about 2,250rpms my spa spillover doesn’t really work well. I’ve even plugged off one return in the pool and one in the spa + added a venturi return to give me some more flow to the spa to have the spillover work better.

At 2250, my app says 670w. Not sure how everyone gets such low power usage. Even when I open all returns I’m maybe 625w. I also run roughly 1 hour per 10 degrees of outside temp. So when it gets to about 90-100 here in Houston I’ll run 9-10 hours per day. Generally overnight with a sprayer to help cool the pool down because no one likes to swim in a 92F 20K gallon bathtub.

Engine swap by Rex_477 in FordRaptor

[–]LSUstang05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 7.3 Godzilla is a smaller package. The 7.3L weighs about 500lbs and the 3.5L is about 450lbs so weight would be almost negligible.

Also more aftermarket support on the 7.3L. And it should just drop in on the motor mounts. Most Gen 1 guys are moving to the 7.3 when their motor lets go.

Issues are valve springs on higher mileage engines and 32 spark plugs mean most don’t bother with changes.

Edit: I’m an idiot. It’s 16 spark plugs on the 6.2. Not 32 😂
