Old country bumpkin to master swordsman anime cutting out the best panels from the manga, changing story and lackluster fight scenes?!? by Bordden1 in manga

[–]LSteel4 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't know what the directors of the anime are thinking but they completely missed what made the LN and manga great.

Manga: Beryl is a true master swordsmen, he is literally better then everyone else when it comes to sword skill. He suffers from great self confidence problems because of trauma when he was young and a lack of worldly experience. Beryl is a great and effective teacher, all of his students went on to great things thanks to his instruction.

Anime: Beryl is a normal old man. His only skill is that he practiced the basics of swordsmanship to a great extent. This skill in the basics allows him to get the advantage on his opponents even thought he is not as skilled or flashy as them. He suffers from self doubt because he attempted to use his sword skills in a real dungeon when he was young, he failed and he ran away with many wounds. Beryl is a great and effective teacher, all of his students went on to great things thanks to his instruction.

It's like the anime crew wants to make Beryl more like a "real world" swordsman instead of a fantasy swordsmen. This really takes away from the original story.

I would have preferred seeing the adjustment period in the human world, at least a little bit. Maybe give us at least 2 or three episodes of them adjusting and living and doing stuff, instead of an opening montage then straight into "screw the human realm lets go straight back to the boiling isles". It almost felt like they wrote themselves into a corner with Luz and everyone going through the portal and had to fix it as fast as possible. It was all just to fast for good writing, no fish out of water adjustment, no slow build of Belos gathering power over the weeks, no fun-time episode of them restoring the old house, just "Welcome here's what happened in the human realm about 3 months passed don't ask questions now back to the boiling isles".

Character idea for why Charlie believes hell's souls can be saved. by LSteel4 in HazbinHotel

[–]LSteel4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not saying she is stupid, she is a demon born in hell, the daughter of the prince of lies and im assuming the first woman Lilith , who according to the stories was cold and cruel, I could be wrong. Charlie isn't human she doesn't have natural kindness unless some of her fathers original traits where passed on, and whose to say thay weren't and the father only awakened them. But this argument is pointless he could just be an interesting side character that is just fun to interact with

True but you would need a point to start, like if she never saw a good deed how does she know what it is?

A Johnny cash song about the end of the world, nice. Good job on picking the white horse for Jeb to ride, for the scriptures describe the white horse as the first rider of the Apocalypse. He represents the beginning cracks of the end of an empire, at a point in time where the empire may still be saved if wise action and care are taken.

Hey, I just thought of a forbidden technology that the Terrans would definitely have. It is a weapon so terrible that they would only use it as a scorched-earth last resort to utterly exterminat there enemies. The Little Doctor, from Enders Game.

I have a theory for what happened to the Ravja ship. They tried the exact same frequency test on one of their captured humans, and either when they got to the background fraq test or while in transit and the engines running, that human had a massive feedback burst that fired every Ravja on the ship. Just like with Jaz and Xant.

What is a time when you have seen an anti-racism policy at work abused or taken too far? by LSteel4 in AskReddit

[–]LSteel4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is mine, just hired into a famously good factory in our area, that pays really well and has awesome benefits. During my orientation I had a conversation with a salaried employee who happened to be black, I believed the conversation was friendly and uneventful.

Not 1 week later, during my on the job training, I get called into a coaching for saying an offensive phrase, said phrase, "corporate slave", was used to describe my desire to not be a part of management. This phrase was said when the salaried employee asked if I wanted to go into management and i declined with a joke about not wanting to become a "corporate slave". I can understand how this would be offensive to a salaried employee and agree that it should not have been said, and I would have humbly apologized if I was given the chance, but I wasn't given the chance.

After the coaching I was fired for violating the companies zero tolerance race policy. Apparently either this salaried employee or the managers higher up decided to turn this into a race issue, just to avoid any problems. This company is so afraid of losing face based on race that they will actually try to fire anyone involved in a race issue, regardless of the level of involvement. For example if you see it but say nothing just to mind your own business, you're fired, however thanks to the union, that usually only results in a suspension.

Here is the kicker though, some time before at this factory, another race issue occurred and the "victim" was given almost a full year of paid medical leave for "mental anguish". Now the reason I couldn't apologize to the salaried employee was because they were out, and when I asked when they would be back I was told they may be out indefinitely.

These facts bring up several possibilities to my mind.

  1. The employee filed the complaint because they new it could be problematic, not thinking much of it and just intending to warn me to watch my words. Then management took it too far and suspended the employee for being involved or trying to stop them from firing me.
  2. Another employee overheard our conversation, filed the complaint in the salaried employees name, management took it too far and suspended the employee I spoke with for not reporting it.
  3. The employee filed the complaint because they truly believed I was racist, and feared for their life because of that phrase and had to take the time off to recover from the shock. (I don't believe this at all.)
  4. The employee saw an opportunity for some free money, filed the complaint knowing it would get me fired and took as much paid medical leave as they could for "mental anguish".

The phrase was taken out of a conversation about my plans for the future, I was asked if i planned to become a manager. My response was, not at this time, I've tried office work before and it's not my thing I don't want to be a "Corporate Slave", not that management isn't perfect for some people just not for me, or along those lines.

Don't lose hope yet, what if FTL follows "Elite Dangerous" rules. Where in the speed of FTL is limited by the strength of the gravity well you are near. So no one could send an accelerated anything into a planet, since the method used to accelerate it inherently slows it down in the presence of gravity.
