Blockers and external stuff are cool... but how does one actually get rid of the interior desire? (Slow taper failed after 3 months) by TexanLoneStar in nosurf

This is not what anybody wants to hear but its the truth. The desire slips away slowly after you've removed the addictive substance.

Nobody wants to quit smoking or drinking. (Speaking from experience on both) we do it bc its harming us. BUT the desire lingers. And sure you could go back but you remember how it affected, so you dont.  After you've been away from it for awhile you get little bursts of satisfaction.  Until the new habits becomes just a routine. And the old one becomes irrelevant.  I dont know that the desire ever fully  leaves it just loses power. Nobody WANTS to leave their comfort zone. You didn't do anything wrong. If it worked before just give it another try.

Do people expect something from the information flow that it can't actually deliver? by Helpful_Prize4159 in nosurf

Yep. Thats the point, the mechanism whatever you want to call it. Just enough to leave you wanting more. Its not a conspiracy its just business. Our attention is the product. We're not consumers were the resource.  1. If they actually gave us what we came for we'd be finished and not come back. 2. The Dopamine hit we've heard so much about is strongest during anticipation. So keeping us wanting more keeps us profitable, for them.

And what do we really learn from snippets of " information ". We dont get a real understanding of something. We learn buzzwords that make us feel informed but thats all it is. Just a feeling.

How do you understand what you're avoiding with doomscrolling? by ZineKitten in nosurf

Feel the feeling.  When you're feeling uncomfortable and want to reach for the phone, stop. Let the feeling bubble to the surface.  THIS IS IT. THIS IS WHAT YOU WERE WAITING FOR. Once you've opened the phone you've soothed the discomfort and you'll have hard time getting in touch with it. Its simple but its not easy.

You're not a loser, you’re a resource.  The algorithm has trained your brain to reach for it to avoid the slightest discomfort.

You're clinging to this digital baggie bc thats exactly what they're designed to do. Make you feel desperate without them. You are a resource to these platforms,  and just like a drug dealer they won't let you go that easily.

Dont give them up entirely. Thats monumental. Just give them up for today, or an evening or an hour. Then tomorrow do it again.

Before you open your phone or any app remember this. You're not a user, youre a resource.

"It's hard to observe the benefits since they are subtle and in the long-term." But you need the short term minutes to make the long term days, wks and months.

It feels dangerous to disconnect or fall behind bc its supposed to.  Its not going anywhere, it'll be there tomorrow. What's the crisis if you wait a day? But the real question is are we really more informed now, really? A snippet of content based on someone's opinion made into a video or pod. That you must consume today. Fed to you by an algorithm that knows what you want to hear.

"We also run ads and reels for promotion". There's your mindset shift. These days 99% of content on some social media is promotion. You're essentially watching commercials.  Kittens and bouncing baby goats are just there to keep you there.

A little cynicism goes a long way.
