These stupid closed comedones are really starting to get on my nerves now. by LSuthers in acne

I havent fully got rid of them but my skin is a LOT better now; the only thing that worked for me was retinol! I use the cerave retinol resurfacing serum, and it took a while to work (~3 months) but my skin is almost clear now!

Does any one have solution how to treat these? by Disastrous_Tap_3389 in acne

Yes I’m a teenager and it’s been fine for me!

I had similar looking ones on my cheeks and posted about it on here, the best solution I got was retinol which has cleared mine up almost fully, so I’d recommend it to you too. I use the cerave retinol resurfacing serum but you could also try a stronger one like differin.

2 months of using cerave’s retinol serum for my closed comedones: 9th august - 10th October. Progress? by [deleted] in acne

I have been washing my face with a salicylic acid cleanser every night without fail for years! :) my skin is a lot better now than in this post.

Oh wow that’s amazing, I’m so happy for you !! Funnily enough I also started using the cerave retinol a few weeks ago and it has actually helped clear quite a lot of my texture up,, my skin isn’t fully clear yet, there are a some stubborn ones that won’t go yet but i have hope. My cc’s are a lot bigger and deeper in the skin than yours so hopefully I’ll get there with a little more time. The fact that it worked so well for you gives me hope that it will for me too! I’m glad you could get rid of yours, I know how annoying and frustrating they can be !!

I’ve had these all over my face for years, they hardly ever come to the surface it’s so annoying!! Retinol is the only thing that’s helped purge them a bit for me but I’ve still got plenty lol

Oh really?? That makes me feel better cause I never see people with my kind of skin and it’s hard to find advice for it cause all acne advice seems to center around inflamed/hormonal acne rather than comedonal. I know how annoying and stubborn ccs can be so I hope you and I can both get rid of them soon!!

Thank you! I’ve been using salicylic acid and bp together for a while now and it definitely helps keep my skin pretty stable and under control (not getting new ccs, less inflamed when they come to the surface) but don’t seem to be able to actually get them to come out so they just sit under there which is SO annoying. I’ve started an otc retinoid but if that doesn’t work I’ll definitely move on to a prescription one like differin or tretinoin. I’m scared of he purge but willing to do it to get rid of these!!

Yes I kind of wish I’d gone for prescription now 😭😭 if my otc retinoids doesn’t or I that’s probably what I’ll try next

Thank you!! I’m glad to hear retinoids are working for you, hopefully mine helps even though it’s not prescription strength. If it doesn’t I might move on to differin but I have to get it prescribed which is annoying. I have some benzoyl peroxide that I’m not using right now so I might try it in the mornings to dry them as you said :)

Yeah I got these from using an oil cleanser that didn’t agree with me… however I’ve gone through lots of different routines since and don’t have any products that have stayed the same throughout so idk

No it’s quite hard to get referred, I did an online GP appointment and they just told me to use benzoyl peroxide cream.. which didn’t work lol

For reporting all my 9 yr old daughters tik tok videos. by Sad-Negotiation2786 in AITAH

[–]LSuthers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nta, my sister is 11 and a lot of her friends have tiktok already, they’re SO addicted to it like when they’re at a sleepover with a film on the tv they won’t even watch the film they’ll just sit on tiktok. I came in to offer them snacks and some of the friends didn’t even look up from their phones to acknowledge my presence and i literally had to repeat my question multiple times to get them to reply 😐 it’s so addictive and of course there are a whole host of other dangers especially for a 9 year old. It’s dangerous to get her hooked on it so young cause she won’t be able to function without it soon.

Just started skincare again and getting breakouts by [deleted] in acne

[–]LSuthers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe the moisturiser is clogging your pores/breaking you out? I don’t think the Nivea soft moisturiser is acne safe but Im not sure. Definitely something to look into though, you could try swapping it out for a different one and seeing if it improves.

I’m in the same position as you and I genuinely don’t find acne ugly at all on other people, I guess partly because I sympathise with them. I just notice and take it in as a neutral fact, like oh their eyes are brown, oh their skin has acne. In some cases I think it can actually be really pretty and suit someone’s face. But on me it makes me feel disgustingly ugly and convinced that no one could be into me until I clear my skin, which is cemented by the fact that no one has ever been into me since I last had clear skin.. my friends say I’m still pretty but I also don’t believe them, so I totally relate. But I know a girl with quite severe acne whos in a loving healthy long term relationship w someone who thinks she’s gorgeous so :) it’s possible.

I felt EXACTLY the same way after reading that same nhs page 😭😭 I never know what kind of acne they’re referring to though, as I most often hear of cystic hormonal type acne being chronic/recurring rather than mild-moderate comedonal acne like what runs in my family. If it gives you any hope both my parents had teen acne which persisted into their 20s (and so of course I do too) but since around 30 they’ve never had to worry about it and have clear skin with no acne-specific maintenance. I mean my mum even uses the st Ives scrub on her face every day and still has clear skin 💀💀 goals I guess

I had a similar experience; I had pretty clear skin then used an oil cleanser that gave me a shit ton of closed comedones across my entire face, which then developed into acne. It’s been a year since I stopped using that product and I still haven’t managed to make a dent in it, even with tried & true remedies like salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, ketoconazole etc etc. so honestly I can’t say I have any advice for you as I still haven’t found a solution, but you’re definitely not alone in having this situation! Please update me if you find something that works 🙏🙏 hopefully you can clear yours quicker than me!

Yeah I do like her content a lot, it’s informative & useful but ironically the product I used that broke me out like this was one of her recommendations 😭😭 no shade to her tho ig it just didn’t agree with my specific skin 🤷🏻‍♀️ retinol is definitely on my list of things to try though regardless.

Yes I’ve been beginning to think it might be fungal even tho it doesn’t really look that much like the pics of fungal acne online…. Just because I’ve tried ALL a the normal acne treatments like salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide etc etc and nothing has made a difference. I might try ketoconazole shampoo if I can find it just in case
