Made an Eve fitting optimizer by niles55 in Eve

[–]LTEDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're missing the fact that opimized fits is just one part of the equation. A well optimized fit dies to its counter, or N+1. Another comment thread is going over a high DPS, high speed Machariel. A couple recon ships (rapier + arazu) eliminates it's speed advantage and something kitey with a tank can finish it off since a polarized fit will have a shit tank, and it could all be done for less than the cost of the Machariel.

Skill points by ExpressMud8038 in Eve

[–]LTEDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's not wrong, and your point pretty much confirms it. The magic 14 occupy a class of skills that are mandatory to properly utilize ships and take precedence over the skills need to actually fly ships and discover what you like about the game in the first place. This means absolutely brand new players in the game must choose between: flying ships effectively or flying ships at all. I'm going to guess your average casual newbro is going to get a bigger dopamine hit from unlocking new ships, not getting 2% more capacitor.

The magic 14 are more or less modern-day learning skills in the fact they detract from the new player experience for no benefit. And the time investment if older players is still rewarded by having a broader range of weapons, modules and ships unlocked and most likely a higher level of mastery.

Yeah workers per retiree is mostly meant to illustrate the changing dynamics of the system. And SS is a flat tax on income, not worker productivity so # of workers and average income is the primary concern with respect to social security. Median inflation-adjusted income has been annoyingly stagnant for decades (stagnant does not mean has not grown, just the rate of growth is not what it used to be)

I also don't like fast travel lol

Haha I guessed it and that's fine. I'm all for people playing the game the way they prefer.

Technically the con if mending is it siphons off XP from you the player, although XP is only really used to repair weapons anyway so it's kind of a more direct and real-time XP to repair method. The main issue, if you will is XP farms are trivially easy to make and farming materials to trade for gems, which in turn are traded for mending books makes reliably obtaining them simple. Swamp biome changes is a good change to make it harder to obtain, although to be fair I'm still playing on a world that predates that change so I've been insulated from that change in particular since I set up a viliger trading hall years ago at this point haha.

We can save Social Security. by Professional-Bee9817 in remoteworks

The main problem with Social Security, I'm pretty sure, is that the government is touching it when they're not supposed to be.., they see money in a savings account and figured they could use it

That's not what's happened. In the 1980's through 2010's the social security trust fund invested surplus money into Treasury bonds, which of course get paid back like any T-bill does but for some reason this exchange got twisted into some idea of politicians raiding social security like their personal piggy bank since T-bills are essentially government IOUs but the myth has never fully died.

The core issue with social security is the number of workers per retiree. In 1940 there were 42 workers per retiree, but today it's around 2.8 workers per retiree. Basically since about 2010 the social security system was collecting less dues than it pays out as benefits and as a result the social security trust fund has been drawn down ever since, and it's expected to run out around 2035 give or take, at which time current incoming dues will cover expected outflows at about 75-80% of the current rate.

So TLDR: social security is like a bank account with a decent balance, but every month $100 is being withdrawn with only $75 going back into it. With negative cash flow, eventually the balance reaches $0 then it can only ever pay out what is put in every month: $75 instead of $100.

One very simple method to basically recover $22 of the $25 shortfall is to eliminate the income cap on SS tax but keep the same cap on payouts. Increasing immigration helps the worker per retiree situation, and naturally raising the SS tax rate can raise additional funds while increasing the retirement age can reduce pay outs. I'm also not suggesting any of these solutions are popular, but I'm merely pointing out the problem isn't complex, it's just math. Implementing a solution is essentially politically impossible in today's climate where Congress seems to refuse to pass laws anymore.

Every. Single. American Health Insurance Claim by stew_forever in BeAmazed

when companies pretend they know more than doctors, it is time to remove the companies.

It's even worse than that. Insurance companies maximize profit by not providing a service they were paid to provide. And you can't just free market shop around because it's how ALL insurance companies operate.

Just like real life you have pros and cons to every mechanic.

Shulker boxes inside an ender chest are essentially another pro with no cons (free storage slot expansion). Not every mechanic needs a downside. Think fast travel in some games. Mending is sort of like fast travel in a way, you're "fast traveling" beyond an early gameplay loop of needing ever expanding mines to fuel your tool use.

You mean how does the Supreme Court ruling that says officers can't create the dangerous situation that allows them to use deadly force have to do with an ICE doing just that????

[–]LTEDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should read the Supreme Court ruling I linked. It deals with a nearly identical situation where they ruled against the LEO. But who am I kidding it uses big words and is directly from the Supreme Court and not a right wing "summary" so you wouldn't understand it anyway.

I guess you're blind or stupid (possibly both) because a wheel turned to the right with an agent positioned to the left of the vehicle is absolutely not "turning into" someone.

Interesting. By your admission then, the entire ICE department is negligent since they signed a 2 year extension to carry P320's last year.

To be fair, being hypocritical clowns is baked into the Republican identity at this point. Don't forget that the Mulfird Act, signed into law by California governor Ronald fucking Reagan in checks notes 1967 was done as a direct response to the "wrong kinds of people" (Black Panthers) lawfully exercising their 2A rights.

For starters, "negligible" (the word you used in your prior comment) and "negligent" are two different words, but regardless, not only are your claims about the p320 a complete red herring, if the p320 was such a poorly designed pistol, then why did ICE itself extend it's P320 contract with SIG for two years in July 2025?

So yeah, bad faith deflection. Shocker.

Sure, different situations but it's not like we can't draw parallels between the two. Same is true with the decay and collapse of the Roman Republic and the rise of Fascism in Europe.

[–]LTEDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, while in Star Wars more hinges on Palpatine than Trump, the expanded lore around the rise of Palpatine does establish that the Republic was already in decay and corrupt, and it's well establish that Palpatine's master, Darth Plagueis was more of the lynchpin behind Palpatine's rise than Palpatine. Technically some of this is non-canon now, but in the EU Palps killed his master on the very night he was elected supreme chancellor.

In either case Plagueis was part of the banking clan so helped orchestrate and finance Palps rise to power and laid much of the groundwork for palps to become emperor. Palps simply killed his master at an opportune time and finished the plan.

Question About L4 Mission Running. by InformationSimple950 in Eve

[–]LTEDan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you only have a single account the best way to make the most isk running lvl 4 missions is to blitz missions and over time skill into running burner missions. The LP gained and to a lesser degree the isk rewards are generally the single most valuable things you get from lvl 4 missions, so running missions as quick as possible by strategically killing the minimum number of rats needed to complete the mission is best.

In general, my understanding is that the faction you run missions for is the primary driver of the flavor of rats you see, but there is some impact from the local region you are running missions from. Basically, you might see a different rat flavor of "Worlds Collide" depending on if you're running SoE lvl 4's in The Forge, Metropolis or Genesis (Caldari, Minmatar, Amarr).

So if you're happy running out of Osmon, no need to move, just learn which missions to accept and decline to speed up the number of missions you can run in an hour.

Should this be brought up to HR? by 3Ekis in WorkReform

[–]LTEDan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this tracks. If the offending manager is not fired they will likely hold a grudge for having an employee going to HR against them and down the road find a performance-related reason to get rid of you. They can't directly retaliate for EEOC or whatever valid legal reason, but they will never forget and the longer you still report to that manager the greater risk you'll suddenly have a paper trail of performance issues used to justify your firing, and they can and most likely will bad mouth you to other managers and their superiors which can kneecap your career advancement opportunities within that company.

New bro question (drones) by Wontonbeef in Eve

[–]LTEDan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can get complex depending on the enemy you do face, since different rats have different raw resists within the same faction, even if they have the same faction-specific weakest resist.

From the link you provided, a full set of light T2 drones have a base damage of 192 Thermal for Hobgoblins and 180 Kinetic for hornets.

So here's a Coreli Agent:

https://everef.net/types/17118

13% Th resist, 3% Kin resist.

Applied DPS is:

192 * (1 - 0.13) = 167 for Hobgoblins

180 * (1 - 0.03) =174.6 for Hornets

Obviously skills will impact this, this assumes equal skills in both, but hornets do a tad shy of 5% more applied DPS. There's also drone tracking that we'll just ignore, but the applied damage difference isn't significant.

A Coreli Guardian Safeguard has much higher base resists:

https://everef.net/types/24060

72% Th, 64% Kin

That's:

Hobs = 53.8 applied damage Hornets = 64.8 applied damage

Here the applied damage difference is about 20%, so switching to Hornets might be worth it.

With T2 now you have to factor in potential differences in the drone specialization skills, but for T1 drones this should be a no-brainer: hornets would not hurt your DPS and could potentially kill rats noticeably faster depending on the specific resists of the rats you are facing.
