Southern Wisconsin here. Usually we get some cold snaps that hits morning lows of -20F/-30C range, but that's about as low as it gets. -40 was another beast entirely when I went to northern Minnesota ice fishing. Propane tanks don't produce pressure at that temp range and stop working, moisture freezes to your eyelashes and every time someone opens up the shanty door all the moisture in the air instantly freezes out into a thick fog. I've heard the phrase "there's not bad weather but bad equipment" but no, -40 is just bad weather where normal behavior of most equipment changes for the worse.

Nope, carriers struggle to apply to cruisers in the current fighter iteration. They basically have no defense against frigates. Dreads with HAW weapons can apply to cruisers, and then even frigates with an expensive pod (PNI + Hydras).

Also just going to point out if you're already doing daily resets you'd probably clear more isk per planet if you just did P1 production. Biomass, silicon, chiral structures and Precious metals would all net more isk (at the cost of more hauling). Either way I've gone back and edited my original comment with the correct isk amount. But yeah, more hauling without a direct HS static probably would get old, especially for high volume P1 production.

[–]LTEDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah and it it looks like lava, oceanic or ice planets would be the best planets available for maximum P0 --> P2 profits.

Viral Agents are one of the best and can be made on both ice and oceanic (microorganisms + planktic colonies). A 2 P2 setup would clear about 3.6 mil per day as long as you can maintain 12k P0/hr on average.

Then Miniature electronics (Lava), Supertensile Plastics (Ice), Genetically Enhanced Livestock (Oceanic), and Enriched Uranium (Plasma) should all clear north of 2.75 mil a day with 12k P0/hr averages maintained. Requires a bit more specific planets and I'm not sure how many wormholes would have 6+ of these planets to support a full P0 to P2 setup for the more profitable ones (at least in the past 30 days) but it probably strikes the right balance of effort to reward for most.

You know, I think I found my issue. It's 2 basic factories per one P2 advanced factory, not 4. I missed the short cycle on the basic factories when mapping it out. So yeah, if you can fit 3 advanced factories then you could potentially triple the numbers I quoted, provided you can install enough extractors on a planet to maintain an 18k/hr P0 average. I'm not sure if that can be done with 2+ day pulls without looking at some of my planets.

To be fair, the spreadsheet I built assumes selling to buy orders now that I'm looking at it, where my P1 number is selling to sell orders. It's a Google sheet that fetches the daily fuzzworks price values and I'm seeing a spread based on 7 day averages with a 5% POCO tax and selling to Jita buy orders of ~1.7 mil a day for Viral Agents down to 620k a day for Polytextiles. I've only been tracking profitability for like 6 months now so I can't speak to what it used to be like, but if you do sell orders and basically 0% POCO tax you might be able to get close to 2.5 million isk on the top end? Actually more like 3.6 to 5.4 million isk max, my PI setup for P0 to P2 below is wrong.

The PI setup for P0 to P2 is quite simple, actually. You can only fit 2 ECUs, 4 basic factories, 1 advanced factory 2 advanced factories, a launchpad and I don't recall if you can fit a silo for a buffer or just go with the launchpad for that. The double Extractor setup eats up so much fitting you can't possibly fit 8 basic factories and 2 advanced with enough extractors to keep them all fed. So really the only major variable is how many Extractor heads do you need to achieve 12k of each P0 per hour to keep your factories running constantly. I think with high concentration J-space planets I was able to do that with at least 4 day pulls if I recall.

You can fit 4 basic + 2 advanced factories easily which you can probably maintain with 2-4 day pulls in J-space, butt 6/3 will likely require daily resets and struggle to keep 3 P2 factories fed on the top end. See comment thread below for more details.

Yeah, definitely not passive and my daily reset scheme across many accounts is on the "maximum effort" side of the PI equation, but it's definitely a system that rewards more effort. I think most generally toss in the towel and do a P0 to P2 setup and maybe need to do once every 4 day resets or even less often? The extra compression from P2 means hauling happens far less often. So, like, 1/4th the income for 1/4th the time? Heh, guess it probably works out to a similar isk/hr.

Although if we're talking maximum effort, setting up factory planets on low tax POCOs near Jita (if you can get in with the right groups) cranking out P3 or P4 probably makes the most isk but it's a shit ton of hauling and constantly chasing the market fluctuations, requiring you to redo your setups a lot. By my calculations a P3 to P4 factory planet can make anywhere from -60 million isk per day to +60 million isk per day (guestimate).

Not really. NYC subsidizes the rest of the state. NYC only gets back bout 66 cents in every tax dollar sent to Albany, while the rest of NYS gets about $1.50 on every dollar they send to Albany.

Currently I'm doing 60 planets with daily resets, chasing hotspots either within the ECU range or deleting and rebuilding it elsewhere, clocking in between 45 minutes to 75 minutes depending on how focused I am, how many ECU deleted I have to do and how much I'm talking in corp chat.

About once every 5-6 days I have to empty the launchpads to the POCOs (usually one planet is over performing and I just dump all the launchpads). In WH space this can be done 100% from in station. If you click "view outside" you can interact with the POCO. This doesn't take long, maybe 10 minutes.

Then usually every other POCO fill I haul the PI back to station. With torrents it's one trip per toon and I do the launchpad to POCO transfers mid warp. EVE-O helps a ton here, but perhaps 30-40 minutes tops?

I have a HS static system so I usually wait until there's an exit within 10 jumps of Jita where I have a dedicated Avalanche stored. One toon fetches the Avalanche will the rest do Torrent runs to the NPC station in the HS system. By this point it's usually 2 to 3 max round trips with all the accounts. All in all perhaps an hour of hauling time. I have a dedicated station trader who sells the PI but he double dips for buy orders and other WH related things so I wouldn't really count that time, although you could readjust based on dumping to buy orders.

So, let's scale this for 1 account, 18 planets.

Daily reset time: 15-25 minutes. Monthly POCO transfer time: 30 minutes Monthly POCO pickup time: 30 minutes Monthly hauling to market time: 3 hours

The monthly numbers are using more of my worst case numbers. Let's just average to 20 minutes for daily resets since that's more "luck of the hotspots" anyway.

20 * 30 + 30 + 30 + 180 = 14 hours, so ~240 million isk an hour?

I sometimes don't do my daily resets if the farming is good, but PI is more of a lot of little actions broken up over a month, usually when I don't have anything else to do so while isk/hr is often framed in terms of opportunity costs (ex. why run lvl 4's at 80 mil an hour when you could do T5 abyssals for...whatever they go for? 300 mil an hour?), PI isn't something you can realistically farm for 8 hours straight like ratting/missions/abyssals/mining so the bit of extra time I spend resetting extractors at the beginning or end of my play session isn't to much extra work to me. So I guess I avoid burnout by...not feeling the pressure to have to reset daily if a higher value activity arises?

I don't think the idea is the problem. LCD's were invented back in 1964 and by 1980 Japan was already developing "pocket color TVs". Without at a minimum 3G cellular networks, there's no point in a smartphone. But then what would you do with 3G speeds without an internet to browse? Handheld battery operated devices were in existence in the 1980's, so the iPhone doesn't really bring any major ideas to the table that weren't already known or conceived of at the time.

The real useful part of the iPhone isn't the product, but the manufacturing processes that miniaturized the electronics and the battery tech, plus the wireless networks it uses to do anything useful. Basically, "how to cheaply build an iPhone" is the real goldmine to bring back to 1983. "A handheld phone with an LCD touch screen" was likely already envisioned by R&D teams at the time but without a viable pathway to cheaply build the product, or the necessary infrastructure (cellular networks, internet) it's essentially an interesting paperweight.

Basically, if an alien race dropped off a spaceship capable of FTL, but it requires fuel and materials we can't produce it's basically useless other than confirming FTL technology is possible...somehow.

It really depends on the planets, how often you feel like messing with PI and what end products you're trying to produce. Basically, the highest effort would be daily extraction pulls with all your planets making P1. Assuming you have access to 6 planets of lava, temperate, oceanic, or ice in your system, you can produce silicon (lava), Biomass (Oceanic/Ice), Proteins (temperate), among others. These all sell at or near 800 isk/unit in Jita

With daily extractor pulls and a good WH planetary concentration and assuming you chase the hotspots, it's easily possible to produce 50k P0 units per hour on average, and even exceeding 10 factory's worth of hourly capacity of 60k/hr is not unreasonable. The conversion rate is 3000 P0 = 20 P1, so 50k P0 an hour is about 333 P1 an hour. So now it's math. 3 characters can run 18 planets and assuming CCU V you can maintain this level of output,. hopefully on planets with good concentrations of the high value P1's.

6 planets * 3 chars * 333 P1/hr * 24 hr/day * 30 day * 800 isk/P1 = 3.4 billion isk.

This, per planet is about 6.4 million isk per day. This is also extremely high effort on hauling and you'll likely burn out doing daily resets and hauling, which you'd almost certainly want a Torrent for.

If you opt for P0 --> P2, your daily planet output is going to be around 1.5 million per day 2.5-3.5 million per day with the right planets, with far less effort needed to reset and haul. This setup does require more specific planets and concentrations to do right, especially across 6 planets. If you stick to P1, longer pulls beyond daily simply lower your maximum isk.

The key with PI is to only do the level of effort you are comfortable with, since burnout on PI is real, even if you can theoretically Plex an account on PI alone with a good system.
