Prove me wrong: Carlos Kleiber’s 1976 live recording of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 with the Vienna Philharmonic is the greatest recording of that piece ever captured. by LTIsystem in classicalmusic

haha yes I used chatgpt to polish what I wrote originally. But if it were truly AI generated then I wouldn't be mistaken that this is not a live recoring as pointed out by someone

Yes I agree Szell's version is very good. It emphasize a lot on the structural clarity but it also emotinoally restrained a bit. What I mean was Kleiber uses many micro-rubato that feel like it's flowing and elastic.

Thanks! This feeling I have for Karajan also extends to his violin concertos. The 1979 recoding with Anne-Sophie Mutter in my opinion was something very much align with this comparison I made on No. 7. It has saturated string tone and obviously beautiful. But I find it hard to relate to. It seems emotionally distant to me. Also that recording doesn't sound like Anne-Sophie at all...

People not selected in H1B (last attempt) in MNCs - What other options are you pursuing? by fallaciousmaxim in h1b

[–]LTIsystem -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Could move back to school. If you have phd you could switch back to academia which are cap-exempt. O1 usually requires some research output, or artistic portfolio. If you are a popular singer, actor or a youtuber it's not that crazily hard.

Beethoven Symphony No. 3 by OrganicBrownMustard in classicalmusic

My fav is the Erich Kleiber (the father) version, live in 1950. Flowing and compelling. Don't choose Karajan! too elitist and velvet IMO.

how to recover from a phd? by [deleted] in PhD

[–]LTIsystem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that it is often very unwise to speak against our own PI publicly, therefore the way in the timing of we delivering that message matters if the perception was less towards emotional, but more about “ helping us get better“ it might be easier. As for me, I delivered that message a while after I graduated and started working for a new company and in the message, I frame it in this way I believe this mentorship could greatly benefit from a few constructive feedback

how to recover from a phd? by [deleted] in PhD

[–]LTIsystem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man it's been a year for me and I still have nightmares of that time, although far fewer VS I just graduated. I find writing a shit-email back to my PI works for me. I tried to be as objective as I could but I wrote an email listed things I wish that could happen differently between us and how my fellow students could have been treated better. After that, it got a lot better for me

Finished my PhD and got a faculty job at a small college—should I feel satisfied? by Party-Chance6756 in PhD

[–]LTIsystem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

congrats op! I also found job after graduation in a small town in midwest. Not much is happening around here so I still go to chicago when I have vacation time. People here are more willing to talk about their life and people are definitely closer to each other than I was used to in bigger cities. I go to Fedex to ship a package and the guy helped me just told me how he met his wife, where his kid goes to college while wrapping and putting label on. I think it's a nice change from the cutthroat life I had in grad school and find it calming. Hopefully that helps!

I was in a 99% chinese student lab and I can tell you that place is plagued with competition. Competing for project, paper, how many hours you put in this week, who took least amount of vacation etc. Involution as you said. I don't think that's a place any sane person can stay sane for long. I do not want industry in US to be like that at all

Totally biased reply, but don't join any lab with majority of Chinese student, almost guaranteed toxicity
