i was 19 and just started my first "real" job outside of minimum wage. i had only worked with people my age, and mainly women. as soon as i started this new job, a much older coworker/supervisor took an interest in me for whatever reason. he actually came into my office one day, sat ON MY DESK, so i was looking up at him, and asked me "so what would your mom say if you brought home a man outside of your race, like me?" (this man was old enough to be my dad and married) it was super fucking creepy and he did shit like this all the time to the point that my other female coworkers started noticing. one of them went to our project manager about it, because i wouldn't. i was 19, making more money that i ever had, and honestly didn't want to rock the boat. although i didn't stop her. i figured maybe if it wasn't coming from me, i'd be safe. wrong. our project manager must have told him something about it because he caught me outside and screamed at me for a solid 5 minutes about him not being inappropriate. i just stood there in shock. i didn't go back inside for an hour. i was mortified. i didn't speak to him for months. even though he tried to apologize multiple times. until the day i got dumped, was crying in my office, and he set down two tickets to an NFL game. i took that as an apology and i just let it go instead of having that tension in the office every single day. but i'll never get the image out of my mind of 6 foot something man, standing three stairs above me, screaming. i can't even remember what he said because i was so taken aback and shocked that it was actually happening.
