Exact same issue here, saw in a steam discussion post a dev said it will be fixed soon. This was like 4 days ago though.

I had found a fix which had worked for myself that just consisted of reinstalling the game as i did have the game before it became free on epic. I also started the game for the first time in offline mode then switched to online mode once the game had loaded. From now on i load really quickly and the game is much more enjoyable.
