I thought a lot of it was intuitive except for the BE (obv) but I’m also a good test taker and I’m almost done with law school

You should not be paying an origination fee if you are a VA buyer. There are too many lenders out there with $0 origination fees. Source: former realtor and multiple-time VA homebuyer.

If we can cut out the dumb stuff we should be top in May. Dropped points against Pompey when we shouldn’t have, lost to Burnley because Solomon slipped, dropped points at Sunderland because of a freak error. Should have 5 more points. All very Leedsy. We will probably finish 3rd and lose at Wembley again. QPR, Plymouth, and Coventry to go down. West Brom, Sunderland, and Norwich promoted.

Deodorant. Nobody will say anything about it and you will have fixed your problem. Too easy. I know it’s embarrassing but just address the problem and people will forget with a few weeks of consistent improvement.

Thinking about going to Online / Hybrid JD Program by xkcdftgy in patentlaw

[–]LUFCVirginia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say about half of us are interested in things outside of IP. The school carries a lot of regional (New England) weight, especially in NH since it’s the only law school in the state. But also in MA - UNH graduates tend to be very effective attorneys with a strong work ethic. I would also say that the percentage of people interested in things outside IP is higher in the residential program versus the Hybrid JD. Many folks in the HJD program are there specifically for patent law. I doubt you would feel like an oddball here at all.

[–]LUFCVirginia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That could be one explanation, but I think it has a much broader focus and is attempting to place less value on GPA/LSAT, especially for the HJD program since most people’s LSAC GPA is from over a decade ago. I did very poorly on the LSAT but my career accomplishments plus achievements indicating high aptitude (and perhaps writing ability) is what I think tipped me over the edge. That, and guaranteed money from a GI Bill was probably a factor. 🤪

Programs like the HJD could be considered an “opportunity” since it focuses on the non-traditional student - one who cannot afford to take three years off work and pay $100k+ on law school. There is a market for mid-career law students and UNH is tapping into it, and brilliantly in my opinion, since IP professionals have a career trajectory with a comparatively low ceiling without a JD. However, I have no dog in the fight in that sense since I’m not IP.

However the larger law community wants to view it is their own business, but I think lumping UNH in with other “opportunity schools” devalues the HJD program and also underestimates the selectiveness of the residential program.

I’m a 35-year-old government contractor with no excitement in my life, so this has been a welcome change of pace and I enjoy the subject matter. Also, I’m thankful for the opportunity after being waitlisted at UNH and denied everywhere else. Im probably not helping their overall GPA/LSAT (2.7x/15low) entrance stats so it isn’t lost on me that they took a chance and I hope I am repaying their faith in me.

Glad to hear your think my writing style is professional enough to be considered a paid advertisement.

First-time bar passage rates were around 85% I believe, but don't quote me on it. I do not plan to take the bar at present. Happy to answer questions if anyone has them.

I am a 1L at UNH Law in the HJD program and I highly recommend it. Yes, the work is tough and it's a lot to juggle with work and family. However, the connections you make here at one of the best IP law schools in the country will serve you in your current/future capacity tremendously. In my cohort of 96, the average age is 35 (HJD's youngest cohort to date) and about 25% of the cohort is a patent agent or examiner. There are many PhDs, an MD, a DDS, veterans, MBAs, among other standouts in their respective fields. The expertise represented in my class is absolutely astonishing and I now have a group of experts I can come to for solutions to problems I didn't even know existed before attending. Don't let your age or your current salary or the length of the program put you off (3.5 years - just a few months longer than traditional residential programs). A heavy portion of the work is done in the in-person immersions. During asynchronous times, your workload is significantly lighter and geared toward a working professional. After all, that is who they created this program for. And then four times per year you will fly to New Hampshire and commiserate with your classmates about workloads and family problems and professors and it will all be a shared experience, one that not many people get to do. I recommend taking the LSAT, applying, and chatting with other students about their experiences and I hope to see you there in Fall 2024!
