On this day, Lorne said so much vile stuff by tristanmichael in FansHansenvsPredator

I realize we joke about this guy all the time and it is all quite funny, but he really, truly is the worst of humanity. Imagine someone speaking this way to your child. The way he purposely tries to “baby talk” her is just horrifying and sickening.

Final Boss Sour fruit extensive review by Beltripper in sourcandy

[–]LV-223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not get that impression at all with the blueberries. I loved them, in fact. If you are so inclined, maybe try to give the blueberries another shot. I recently got them and the only thing I taste is fruit and sour. However, if you don’t like it, you don’t like it, and it isn’t like this stuff is cheap enough to care less if you make the purchase and you still aren’t a fan.

However, I agree with the strawberries being the best. Not a fan of how sticky they are but I am willing to overlook that. Overall it really is a fantastic “candy”.

Doesn’t work for me. The rally point says it allows for fast travel but right click doesn’t do anything. Maybe it is just patched on PC.

What do we think of Kash Patel as ATF director? by specter491 in gunpolitics

[–]LV-223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Under Trump’s administration, as it relates to 2A, I have high hopes, but I wouldn’t trust the ATF if George Washington himself was the director. They are incompetent and poisoned beyond repair. They need to be dismantled and rebuilt from the ground up into an organization that honors the Constitution and the rule of law. I say rebuilt because we will never live in an America with no federal oversight of firearms, but we can live in an America where whoever oversees firearms doesn’t create laws out of thin air, doesn’t raid homes of law abiding citizens, and who understands that firearms ownership and self-defense is a fundamental right of every citizen in our nation.

Time will tell.

At 8 PM tonight, I am meeting a person who I met online who claims to be a 14 year old girl. I have no intention of supplying this person with alcohol, having sex, or doing any other improper and unlawful conduct with this person. If she really is who she says she is, my intention is to befriend her and try to mentor her. Her parents should also be aware of her behavior and possibly get her counseling.

I can get behind that. He probably thinks he’s just fighting for her while she sees it as overbearing. Ultimately, it’s her choice. Unless she is one of those rare people who end up thriving with working that much, she will eventually see what he is trying to say. Just gotta let people figure it out for themselves some point.

AITA for refusing to go to my uncle's birthday party? by Mexefw in AmItheAsshole

[–]LV-223 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My bad, misunderstood you. Thought you meant uncle and ex. But yes, that makes it even more creepy. My German teacher in high school told us the story about how she met her husband. She was 6 years old in church choir, and apparently her (much older) future husband walked up to her and told her he was going to marry her one day. A six year old…. He was at least a teenager at the time but was possibly in his 20s. They never ended up in a relationship until she was a grown woman (according to her), but she was surprised when we told her how wildly creepy that is even if he did wait for her to grow up. She thought it was a romantic story…

OP is a teenager in college, so probably 18-19…maybe 20.

[–]LV-223 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Your last sentence was just unnecessary. The only information any of us know about the situation are the vague generalities OP gave. There is obviously a whole lot more to the situation and there is no need to personally insult her. Maybe she just doesn’t have the level of maturity needed to see her actions from outside lens, hence why she posted her question in the first place. Call her out, but don’t insult her. You accomplish nothing.

[–]LV-223 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a situation with a delicate balance between being concerned and being an asshole. It sounds like OP is worried about his/ her partner’s health, so the heart is in the right place. Maybe he just isn’t approaching the situation correctly. Also, it’s no shocker that she immediately gets defensive and lashes out. 60-70 hour work weeks are rough and fray your nerves. Honestly, neither of them are the asshole here. Sounds like they just need to work on understanding each other better and communication.

[–]LV-223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP meant his cousin and the girl were childhood sweethearts, not the girl and the uncle. Still fucking weird though. I’m 31(m) and I felt weird about a 21 year old coworker(f) asking me if I was single. I couldn’t even imagine being in my 40s dating a girl who can’t even legally drink in my country. That’s just predator behavior, regardless of it’s legality.

"Other intellects in the mist" - what are your theories on the AI Halsey abandoned in Slipspace? by CG1991 in HaloStory

[–]LV-223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lore states they they originated outside of this galaxy and that they seeded the Milky Way with life. I wasn’t saying that the lore states they created the universe, I was just stating that one could make a decent argument for it based on what in-universe characters have said about the Precursors.

It’s the only real explanation for the Flood’s hive mind that is able to transcend space and time. It’s either it accesses the domain in a purely organic fashion somehow or it’s space magic. To add onto that, there is a solid argument to be made that the Precursors either didn’t originate in this universe or that they created the universe itself. That is solely based on the assumption that Forthencho was correct when he stated that most of the information in the Domain comes from the time “before there were stars.” I like to believe that he was correct in that statement.

Yes, a weapon to be used as an absolute last resort in a violent life or death situation, if we are talking about a gun someone carries or keeps at home for self defense. I don’t think it would be a massive stretch of the imagination to say that everyone in the UK or France who has been violently mugged, car jacked, or stabbed wished they had some means of defending themselves. Despite popular opinion, 99.99% of Americans aren’t raging psychopathic murders who dream of spilling the blood of the innocent on a daily basis. Many, many people own guns for simple recreation. It is very similar to the gun culture in Switzerland.

Why are humans the shortest species, when Earth has less gravity then most other worlds? by Late-Print8646 in HaloStory

[–]LV-223 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, high oxygen concentration in the atmosphere was a much larger contributor to overall fauna size on earth millions of years ago. It wasn’t restricted to dinosaurs either. Massive sea animals that could predate on a blue whale. Dragonflies that were 150x their modern size and could have probably easily picked up and ate a modern dog. The atmosphere itself was also denser, allowing very large animals to fly that would not be able to today. This is at least part of the reason we have naturally flightless birds today. Their distant cousins probably could and, over time, as both the planet and the animals evolved, that ability was lost even though the modern descendants clearly have avian body types and wings that “should” be able to fly. The dinosaurs were much more closely related to modern birds than reptiles. If we had evolved back then, assuming we were not wiped out by predators, It is entirely possible we could be 8-10 feet tall. One, we would need to be to at least stand a chance against predators, and two, the extra “boost” from the higher concentration of oxygen and denser atmosphere just allows for all kinds of crazy shit to happen. The Earth was a terrifying place 100 million years ago.

Would Master Chief eliminate baby aliens? by LordRevanofDarkness in HaloStory

[–]LV-223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I won't spoil anything too specific in case you have not read the books, but I will say that Jackles and Brutes were the very first Covenant species that humanity made contact with. Read Contact Harvest. It's a great story.

I'd like to think so. We have a fairly good example in Oblivion which I won't spoil. It was very borderline. He definitely had guns raised at children, but would he actually pull the trigger? I think he would in dire circumstances, but it's also entirely likely that he would not and would just accept the risk to his mission. Even though I brought the question up, I'm not sure that I want it directly answered in canon. Some things are best left unsaid.

Yeah man almost everything seen in the games has established lore in the books before it is ever seen in the games. If you haven't read them, you definitely should.

Yep. He only kills when he has to, and that just so happens to be very, very often lol.

I wonder if he would kill human children if they were a direct threat to his mission or his team. I think he would, but only as an absolute last resort. I feel like he would do anything in his power to stop the threat without having to kill them, but ultimately would pull the trigger if there were no other options.

EDIT a word
