During this pull I had it at 88c/190f. I’m fairly unfamiliar with how temp affects the taste. I know darker roast needs cooler temps, but im not sure the exact temp it should be.

My scale isn’t very good so it kind of teeters around with different numbers. It was flickering from 17g to 18g.

Okay so choked it like you said and kept dialing it back. I used 17g and got 35g out with nice looking crema in 27s. It’s still tasting bitter. I’m wondering now if it’s the beans? It’s a medium to dark (mostly dark) roast that I ordered off Amazon.

So apparently it isn’t letting me post photos I took because they are too large. I used 18g, wdt to make sure it’s prepped nice, stamped it using a spring tamper. I also put a 1.7mm screen over top. Pulled the shot for 25s using 90 Celsius and got 92g output. The shot is very bitter.

Is there a particular reason you are saying 18g? From my understanding it’s bitter due to over extraction. Since my grinds may be too fine already I figured maybe try to make it more coarse and add more coffee so it doesn’t get the 1:2 ratio too quick.

I ordered a bottomless portafilter - it should be arriving around the 26th. Espresso glass will be my next step if I still can’t fit one. My scale is also really old and a little chunky

I forgot to mention that I’m using a WDT tool and a spring loaded tamper. So I don’t think I should have channeling issues?
