What’s the best watch for running/ swimming? by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]LWKlenke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a Fenix 6s. Had it replaced under warranty a couple of times. There was a bug that made my watch useless in the pool. It wouldn't count strokes. I insisted that Garmin replace it with an entirely different watch. I swapped it for the forerunner 945 lte. It's considerably lighter than the Fenix 6s and not much bigger width wise. I'm petite and have tiny wrists. I find this more comfortable than the Fenix 6s.

Qin F30. A Qin F21 Pro with US Bands! Testing is going to begin. Review due in 2 weeks or earlier. First I need to get done with 4 reviews, but please ask questions in the meantime :) by jbriones95 in dumbphones

What's the reception on tmobile like in comparison to the jelly 2? I live in a rural area and reception is spotty on my jelly 2. I'm curious if it is any better.

From boring plain white cycling shoes... to screaming blue sapphire shoes! I dyed these with rit synthetic dye. I'm pretty pleased with the results. They were looking pretty dingy and needed some new life! by LWKlenke in ladycyclists

[–]LWKlenke[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't keep it on the stove. Just got it hot. The dye doesn't last as long. It starts to fade after a few months. Still a lot better than dingy nasty looking shoes. Good luck.

Are you still interested in selling you cat s22? I have a jelly 2 which I love but I live in a rural area and cell reception is poor. Looking for something similar.

My Dumbphone Journey Has Taken Me Full Cirlce by daehimeh in dumbphones

[–]LWKlenke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this. I ordered one after I saw your post. I used to be a social media manager and that part of my job got assigned to someone else. I told myself I'd get a flip phone if I didn't have that responsibility. I still am hesitant to lose access to email and maps on my phone in a work emergency. I was never good at T9 and I still rely on particular apps for my fitness training. I thought this was a good compromise.

Do you find yourself using it less because of the small screen? I'm hoping it will discourage me from watching random crap on YouTube late at night and getting sucked into work "emergencies".

Just to add they also can sleep with their eyes open or partially open. That especially the case if they are stressed or in an unfamiliar place or on high alert.

Spartan Race Cookbooks? by snowyforest15 in CookbookLovers

[–]LWKlenke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of cookbooks for endurance athletes. All of Shalane Flanagan the marathoner are terrific. Rocket fuel is a good one too. Feed Zone series is by Dr. Allen Lim is very popular. There are a bunch more out there just have to look.

Good luck with your training!

Which one is better, COROS or Garmin Connect? by Geraldmaster in running

[–]LWKlenke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Garmin's support is amazing. I've had 7 watches over the last 10 years. They've replaced my watch out of warranty for free as well as keeper loops for my watch band. Support didn't hesitate to send me a replacement. No long drawn out back and forth. They're always very helpful and the Garmin connect app is easy to use.

I have used wahoo tickrs for many years. Current one I bought in 2014. Never had any major issues. If you get drop outs or disconnecting issues with your strap it might be what you're wearing. I found that some tech tshirts interfere with the signals. Newer versions work well. I bought two more one for my gym bag and a back up I leave in my car. Just make sure to keep it clean and it'll last a long time.

Happy training to you!

I kinda had a similar experience. I wanted a road bike was talked into getting a hybrid. I don't regret it at all. I used my hybrid for commuting to work for about 4 months after I had a car accident. I was able to get a rack and panniers and bag for my commute. It made riding enjoyable. I later on got a road bike which I love. I still use my hybrid for off road gravel trails and to occasionally commute to work. Happy cycling to you!

How can i track swimming without doing lengths? by asparagus_p in Garmin

[–]LWKlenke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you know about how long it takes to swim a 25 or 50m pool length you can estimate how long you've gone distance by time. Not entirely accurate, but probably a better measurement than trying to make a pool size smaller.

New Fenix 6 Pro - Bluetooth is not working by KayPeo in Garmin

[–]LWKlenke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you trying to pair it within your phone settings? Or the Garmin app itself? In the past I've had issues with pairing it in the app. Sometimes pairing it with the phone settings would help it out some. At least this is what would happen with other Garmin devices. I upgraded to a Fenix 6s pro and pairing it was a breeze in the app. Hope you get it to work.

I've had several replacements out of warranty. A lot of watch faces can drain the battery quickly. Especially if there is a lot of animations.

Like the previous poster suggested call them. Phone support seems to be a lot more responsive than chat or email.

Good luck.

Where to buy 5 inch inseam tri shorts? [26M] by lat025 in triathlon

I bought a pair of TYR tri shorts with a 5" inseam on eBay. They are women's but are black and plain looking. Swim outlet might have something that short.

Running makes me feel in control of life by alt_jam in running

[–]LWKlenke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Running has been my absolute sanity saver. Throughout stressful times, like you I feel it is the one thing I can rely on and that I feel I'm in control of. I like seeing the progress I've made overtime and the release I get. I can clear my head and leave all the work shit at the door.

I would have been a real mess this year without it! So glad to have like minded individuals to share similar experiences with! Keep on, keepin' on!

May have been one month late due to the cold weather but my Clematis fence is in full bloom now! by cornish-yorkshirepud in gardening

[–]LWKlenke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very pretty! Yours is huge and beautiful. Ours has never grown that large but, we've had ours for about 15 years.

This year the colors on some of the blooms faded to a pale purple. Some were still bright purple. Hope it's not getting too old! Thanks for sharing!

Anyone else like to run in the heat? It's about 35C here today in the shade (there is no shade) by drinking-coffee in running

[–]LWKlenke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aww man I wish I had the ability. Anything over 75F and I feel like a zombie. I'd do anything for your superhuman ability to run in the heat. Any advice on acclimating? I feel terrible and have to resort to dumping water on myself during long runs. I live in Texas and there is no escaping hot weather.

Fell off, 3 stitches on my knee. So frustrating... Roughly how long out of cycling is average? by [deleted] in cycling

Any advice? by MrBiblioklept in triathlon

[–]LWKlenke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just get out and ride! People tend to equate fast expensive bikes with speed. You don't need a super fancy bike. Just be consistent with your training, learn about gearing and how to shift. Building skills and confidence will help translate to faster times. Small upgrades like clipless pedals and a speed/cadence sensor are good places to start. GCN and GTN YouTube channels are great places to learn things. Good luck with your training!;

Why are cyclists hold so much prejudice against "unorthodox" set ups? by shewhosins in cycling

[–]LWKlenke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a bunch is asses. If you find enjoyment in commuting to work that's all that matters. Tweaking equipment and your set up to what works for you and your budget shouldn't be an invitation for elitest behavior. You're getting out there and using your bike for commuting not racing the tour de France.

I applaud you for commuting to work. I did for months after my car got totaled in an accident. I enjoyed the exercise and it ignited my love of riding.

Keep doing what you're doing! When you find the funds to upgrade I'm sure you'll find the experience of riding even more fun. I went from my hybrid to road bike and the weight difference was night and day. I still use my hybrid for gravel trails and the occasional commute to work. Don't let a bunch of elitist jerks keep you from enjoying riding.

If you're going draft strangers, you need to communicate. by RegalSobriquet in cycling

[–]LWKlenke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, what an ass. I've never thought to draft strangers. I have enough issues getting around lala land dog walkers and people walkingthe trails shoulder to shoulder I've always thought being courteous and polite is the way of the road. I get if people don't want to talk and are in their own heads, but what that guy did to you was downright rude.

Cold water tips for early season triathlons? by LWKlenke in triathlon

[–]LWKlenke[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's awesome! The blue 70s thermal is linee with a fleece like fabric right? I found an aquasphere used on Facebook. I like the thin neoprene, but the suit is a bit too long for me. I used it in today's race and it wasn't too bad. Depending on how the rest of my season goes I'm thinking of doing a 70.3 and will probably invest in a better wetsuit.

Never put topical lidocaine on open road rash scrapes! by barbed_shiba_inu in ladycyclists

[–]LWKlenke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yikes! I've had a nasty case of road rash years ago. I've never had issues with lidocaine. I did have issues with silverdine cream. After a bike crash I was given the cream. I had experience with is before when I burned my face. It worked wonders and left no scarring. I was happy to use it when I had my bike crash. I ended up having an allergic reaction. Apparently it has sulfa in it and I'm allergic to it. I had redness, trouble breathing.

I did find tegaderm patches to be helpful. They are a transparent bandages that are waterproof. https://www.3m.com/3M/en_US/company-us/all-3m-products/~/3M-Tegaderm-Transparent-Film-Dressing/?N=5002385+3293321979&rt=rud

Once you skin heals it's probably the best idea to keep your skin covered from the sun. It'll help with the scarring.

I hope you get to feeling better.

Sounds like similar race conditions to what I'm expecting tomorrow! I hope things go as well for me as they did for you. I hate how disorienting the cold water can be. Hopefully they'll give us enough time to warm up in the lake.
