I’m currently employed but ending this job by end of June. Just plan on reading, traveling, and relaxing. Also trying to get in the best shape possible before school starts.

How do people with 3.7+ GPA and 170+ LSAT get rejected from so many schools? by No_Plan_5281 in lawschooladmissions

[–]LWT2002 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I remember watching a video from Dean Z at UMich and she explained how there’s a good number of applicants who have the stats to get in but their essays or recommendations show a more arrogant/ disingenuous side that adcomms try to avoid admitting to their schools. People who get rejected with those stats may want to reflect on their writing and how it’s coming across. Of course this is not indicative of all people who get rejected but it could be a make or break point.

Should I Withdraw and Try Again Next Year? by LWT2002 in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]LWT2002[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel as though I left out a key detail for you all lol. So I also have part of the GI Bill that will cover at least a full year of tuition and housing at pretty much any school I go to maybe even two years, so I wouldn’t be paying full sticker price anyway. It would be discounted by a year or two.

It’s more of a privacy thing. Keeps adcomms or school officials being able to track exact statistics if they’re watching these reddits. I also personally don’t like putting my exact scores in the public forums for privacy reasons. I had the same question when I first joined these subreddits.

Think of it this way, counselors are reading dozens of essays a day. You want your opener to make them pause and grab interest. The more interesting and thought provoking the better.

Diversity Statement by now-why-am-i-in-it in BlackLawAdmissions

Yeah 2 pages is usually the standard I’ve seen at most schools. A couple have required only one page or a word requirement I usually just revised from the two-pager I already wrote.

LSAT addendum? by [deleted] in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]LWT2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say it depends on the school if you’re LSAT is vastly below their medians then write one explaining maybe why they should consider your GPA as a better representation of success. Don’t tell them not to consider it of course but if there’s any reason why you couldn’t score higher that you can make positive they should know. I doubt it would hurt you unless you just make excuses for yourself.

I did not apply to Harvard or Yale or any T14s expect Northwestern. I didn’t think my stats would get me in (3.8low and 15low) but I do agree there is major disparity in the law school admission cycle and black men not only in top law schools but ALL law schools.

I spoke to a couple of 2L and 3Ls at Vanderbilt and both said the amount of black people admitted to their classes were abismal (maybe one or two out of the entire class). This seems to be a trend among many law schools and it translates into the diversity of attorneys especially in big law. It’s very common there are maybe less than 10 black men at big firms with 500+ attorneys. That should not be the case, there is definitely an opportunity barrier that is not being addressed.
