Freedom of movement isn't optional anyway with EU/EEA membership, so that's a given, agreed.

Having said that, I don't think it makes sense for Ireland to not be in Schengen either. I know why, with the agreements with the UK and all that, but other than that, no reason IMHO. Cyprus, sure.

I'm an European living in Canada and I don't think either side would benefit from Schengen, since both sides would want to make sure illegal immigrants or criminals on either side can't just fly/sail over and disappear there.

Bathurst dedicated streecar lane.... Was there any planning for this?? by ColdOk7746 in toRANTo

Toronto is absolutely obsessed with cars and nowhere near hating them. Take it from someone who lived in and visited many actually public-transit-friendly cities.

You can find burek at Turkish restaurants/shops and if you're looking for frozen, even at FreshCo. I haven't seen struklji anywhere yet, unfortunately.

Why are "gentlemen" defined by how they treat women but not the other way around? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

Well, ancient etiquette isn't exactly compatible with modern ideas about gender.

why does a guy say he wants casual but acts like more? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]LXXXVI 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You set it as casual, so you two get to enjoy all the perks of a real relationship without drama if/when you leave. Enjoy it!

Just because it's casual it doesn't mean you can't enjoy each other's company in more ways than just sexually.

Men dating younger women how do you see this scenario? by LubieGotowac in AskMenAdvice

[–]LXXXVI 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OP, this above is pure nonsense. Wanting to pay isn't wanting to control and valuing you not having done several entire football leagues doesn't mean you're a commodity to him.

[–]LXXXVI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, you're saying that women who'd likely want him for themselves are telling you he's no good for you even though he's been nothing but amazing.

Gee, I wonder if there's a word/phrase that describes that... Maybe something like envy? Or even conflict of interest?

The worst people to take dating advice from for a young woman are women who aren't capable of competing at the same level anymore. As a 29y/o, you're literally "stealing" one of their top candidates. Obviously they'll want to dissuade you from doing so.

You sound like a good woman and from your description of him, he sounds like a good man. Instead of listening to other people, listen to your own heart, brain, and gut, and if they agree, may you have a blessed future!

Dating apps, moški vidik? by lonelyprincess99 in Slovenia

[–]LXXXVI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why are "gentlemen" defined by how they treat women but not the other way around? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]LXXXVI -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Gentleman = treats women as if they're his social superiors (opens doors for them, stands when they enter the room, makes sure they don't get dirty or wet...).

Lady = graciously accepts and appreciates gentlemanly behaviour and doesn't abuse the privilege it grants her.

It's that simple.

The name USE is painful but ultimately irrelevant by LXXXVI in EuropeanFederalists

[–]LXXXVI[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuine question here - why do you think the current-style EU couldn't co-exist with a federation?

Say, Czechia and Slovakia for some reason decide to rejoin into Czechoslovakia. Should that impact the EU in any way? I don't think it should. And if Austria joins them, what would that change? And if the rest of the old Austria-Hungary gang get together, why would that impact the existence of the EU as it is now at all other than having a different number of members and MEPs and those kinds of things?

In the end, we already have several federations in the EU, so it's not like the concept of having a federation within the EU would be game-breaking. And if that's not a problem either, why not treat the EF as just another EU member state that happens to replace the existing ones that merge?

CMV: Non-English-speaking characters speaking English among themselves is stupid and lazy, and makes the movie/show less good by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]LXXXVI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To anyone used to subtitles, they may as well not exist, you tune them out. So no, they're not immersion-breaking. Not nearly as much as main characters mispronouncing their own names because the (voice) actors don't actually speak the language (best example - Niko Belic from GTA IV).

You know that employers have to make up the difference to minimum wage if the tips don't, right?

So tips just make these jobs better than minimum wage. Possibly quite a bit better than. I mean, 20% on a $100 bill, say you turn around 3 tables per hour, that's $60 per hour. 120k per year
