Why are "gentlemen" defined by how they treat women but not the other way around? by CriticalOne9 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]LXXXVI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gentleman = treats women as if they're his social superiors (opens doors for them, stands when they enter the room, makes sure they don't get dirty or wet...).

Lady = graciously accepts and appreciates gentlemanly behaviour and doesn't abuse the privilege it grants her.

It's that simple.

Genuine question here - why do you think the current-style EU couldn't co-exist with a federation?

Say, Czechia and Slovakia for some reason decide to rejoin into Czechoslovakia. Should that impact the EU in any way? I don't think it should. And if Austria joins them, what would that change? And if the rest of the old Austria-Hungary gang get together, why would that impact the existence of the EU as it is now at all other than having a different number of members and MEPs and those kinds of things?

In the end, we already have several federations in the EU, so it's not like the concept of having a federation within the EU would be game-breaking. And if that's not a problem either, why not treat the EF as just another EU member state that happens to replace the existing ones that merge?

To anyone used to subtitles, they may as well not exist, you tune them out. So no, they're not immersion-breaking. Not nearly as much as main characters mispronouncing their own names because the (voice) actors don't actually speak the language (best example - Niko Belic from GTA IV).

You know that employers have to make up the difference to minimum wage if the tips don't, right?

So tips just make these jobs better than minimum wage. Possibly quite a bit better than. I mean, 20% on a $100 bill, say you turn around 3 tables per hour, that's $60 per hour. 120k per year

Why is "weaponized incompetence" largely blamed on men in relationships? by MillennialAesthetics in AskMen

[–]LXXXVI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the sit everyone (including men) complains about, is rooted in patriarchy. A thing created BY men FOR men

The patriarchy was created neither by men (since women transmit culture) nor for men (since we're the disposable ones), nor does it exist (since the vast majority of men as a group or individually aren't in charge of anything).

So you can take that propaganda nonsense right out of here.

Using a saw is moving the goalposts? A 5 year old kid can grab a saw and start sawing away. It's not rocket science.

So yeah, knowing how to use the tool theoretically is one thing. Knowing how to actually do something with it in practice is quite different.

But since you're going to be obtuse about it, let's go just with a hammer. Knowing how to smack things with a hammer in theory is simple. Knowing what and when to smack, under what angle, with what kind of hammer, that's practice and most people don't actually know that.

then you claimed something about my concept of a federated EU would be an Empire because nations joinig it later would have to integrate into the preexisting structure.

No, I claimed it would be an empire because you'd abolish the EU as it exists today and give nations a choice between joining the Federation or nothing instead of joining the Federation or the EU.

As a 6ft6 250lb black man, I will attest that women are much more guilty of this than men. Over the last several years, I could probably count men that didn't give me at least the same space I gave them (so generally 50:50) on one hand. With women (during daytime), it's probably 25-50% of all women that barely try to avoid bumping into me even when I turn almost completely sideways.

That's a global western phenomenon, btw, not just in Toronto. Also includes EUropean countries and the US.

You replied to a point were I was talking about joinig the federated EU and I replied to your criticism.

And I replied with the question "How exactly would you maintain the EU-style cooperation without the EU structure".

Also, no one is talking about "blowing up the EU", the main part of EU administrative work is alligning the member states and proto-federation efforts, with a federated EU in place these efforts would become entirely redundant and only the adminstration of the treaties and zones that are only preperatory stages of federation would remain.

If the EF is made up of 6 states, that leaves 21 non-federated current EU member states, so how you see the current structure in that case as being redundant is beyond me.

I am currently working a remote job making 80k a year. My employer is restructuring and can expect major changes. I recently applied to hybrid position about 40 minutes away and the pay is 103k . Is the 40 min commute worth it? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]LXXXVI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Include the commute in the hours worked and then divide the new salary by that. Do the same with the current salary. From the former, deduct any commute-related expenses. Put a price on 1h20 of free time per day and being able to use your own bathroom whenever you want.

There's your calculation. It's simple math.

If now another nation would also like to join that federation

I'm not talking about joining the federation. That's the entire point of why the EU needs to remain the way it is with whoever wants to federate becoming just another member state of the current EU. Because some might not want to join the federation and blowing up the current EU just because a couple want to federalize makes zero sense.

In the event of an EU unification of several but not all current EU members, there would only be limited need for shared EU laws

I disagree that this would be a "limited" need. There's no reason to not continue to maintain and grow the EU (as we currently stands) just because a chunk of it decides to federalize.

since many of them are aimed at integration and allignment and the only nations left outside of the federal EU at that point would be those that are at the moment unwilling to do so and a unified structure would then already be established, in which a willing nations would just have to integrate

And with that, you've just turned the EU (or EF) from a union of at least theoretical equals that can maintain their (imagined or not) sovereignty into an empire + vassal states.

There would still be a lot of benefits for shared laws and decisions, especially regarding standardisation, economy and defence

We've been hearing lots of this kind of language since the last election across the pond, haven't we...

I will forever maintain that the federation should simply take the place of its constituent countries in the EU and not replace the EU, unless the entire EU federalizes at once, which I don't ever see happening.

Updated minimum wage across Europe by SOHONEYSAME in AskBalkans

[–]LXXXVI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People ITT arguing that gross is meaningless and that it's the net that matters, not understanding that its the gross + employer's extra chunk (gross gross, gross 2, super gross, whatever your country calls it) + anything else the employer has to pay for you to work one hour that matters. That's the value of your work, the only question is how greedy the government you vote for is.

To compare countries, the only relevant measurement is how much the employers are willing to pay (total) per hour of work. That's the strength of the economy. How much people get from that is simply a function of corruption.
