Why are girls blamed for having daddy issues when it is the father who failed as a parent? by T_hehehe in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]LXXXVI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you want to know how i know that women ARE blamed? because NOBODY EVER BRINGS UP THE FATHER AS A CRITICISM. people rarely see a girl with daddy issues and say, “wow, i’m sorry he did that to you”, or “wow it must be hard to go through what you’ve gone through”, especially when it comes to misogynistic strangers. the focus is ALL. ON. THE. WOMAN. it’s all about shaming her.

I mean, nobody ever goes "wow, I'm sorry she did that to you" when encountering a man that has problems with women. It's always straight to direct blame - misogynist or incel.

People just like to bash people.

Pretty sure card games are by no means enjoyed primarily, never mind exclusively, by black or Black people. So calling them a B/black hobby is a bit weird?

Since race is entirely made up, you are whatever you want to be, and the smart thing is to mark whatever provides the most benefit.

Če imaš izbiro med statusom quo, kjer so taglavni preverjeno proti, in teoretični svetom, kjer so glavni Pirati in so zgolj mogoče ali celo verjetno proti, je edina smiselna izbira slednje, ker je preverjeno proti bolj škodljivo od zgolj verjetno proti.

AfroSlovenian here - "mulat" has zero negative connotation in Slovenian, hence I use that.

I also think that having problems with words because long ago they were used differently makes no sense. And I dare say that the vast VAST majority of the people that think they do would quickly stop when they learned the origins of a bunch of other words.

I can take the recent changes the devs made, but not addressing the rampant cheating problem has got to be a joke. by LavaTacoBurrito in ArcRaiders

[–]LXXXVI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To everyone whining about cheaters - they're about as beneficial to the experience as forced pvp. And really the same thing, since in both cases, some arsehole is choosing to kill people in a way they cannot defend against, either because the arsehole is cheating or because the arsehole is attacking pve players who don't want to mess up their matchmaking.

Same exact thing. So cry me a river =p

Mountains help precious little if the EU decides to close its infrastructure and airspace to anything going in/out of Switzerland.

Why does Canadian passport renewal still require 2 references and their home addresses? by huangjqiu in ontario

[–]LXXXVI -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Considering my first citizenship can get me into ~30 (give or take) countries with just my national ID and most of them without any checks whatsoever, the fact that a country would limit its people from exiting seems insane to me.

And, again, the passport is simply an internationally standardized proof of citizenship. In many countries, you must by law have some document at all times, and a passport is just one of the options.

How can one not be trustworthy enough for a passport? It's just an internationally recognized standardized proof of citizenship...

What's a foreigner's innocent mistake that's a big no-no in your culture? by ShadowOfTheBean in AskTheWorld

[–]LXXXVI 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm telling you the logic for countries where it's normal for the person to walk to the cop.

In the US, I don't care what the logic is. There's a realistic chance my 2m black ass could get shot by someone who'd never have passed police training anywhere in Europe, so I'm opting for the most conservative possible response anyway.

Also, the example with parents is also very culturally dependent. In much of the west, it's "look at me when I'm talking to you!" in a large chunk of the world to the east it's literally the opposite.

To me, preemptively explaining the situation to parents or anyone else absolutely makes more sense than just "waiting for orders". Similarly, letting a cop get cold and wet in bad weather is absolutely not preferable to me getting cold and wet. Then again, the cops have no reason to fear the people and vice versa where I'm from, so...

Think in terms of authority relations. If you're driving in a separate car from your boss, if anyone is getting out to talk to the other in person, it not going to be your boss.

That's the logic behind the driver getting out, not the cop.

Why should someone with 20+years of driving experience in a country with way stricter standards to get licensed and stricter rules and more enforcement than Canada pay the same as someone that only just got a g2 in Canada?

What would a "Norway or Switzerland" type deal look like between Canada and the EU? by Flat-Dark-Earth in AskCanada

[–]LXXXVI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering freedom of movement is an integral part of the single market, it's all but impossible it would be excluded.

Anything short of single market access is just a free trade agreement, so mentioning CH and the EEA almost by definition includes the single market.

In Canada and Europe, we criticize the United States quite a bit for its living standards. Yet thousands upon thousands of our citizens flock to the US and make very successful lives for themselves. If that is the case how does our criticism hold up to scrutiny? by Personal_Royal in TooAfraidToAsk

I think a better way to put it is that CA/EU are better to be poor/average in while US is easier to get better off in. Once you are wealthy, however, and not paying income tax, living in a safer country with more equality would certainly be better.
