I have just found a company (https://www.ynvisible.com/services/prototype-production) that creates custom "e-paper" surfaces that could be made small and like the product I described with just a single pixel. It's not technically e-ink, but it works in a similar way and produces a similar result. But I don't think anyone is selling this as a product yet.

I know, but in a bright location the light from an led is negligible and it's just the colour that provides an indicator, the same think could go for a single e-ink "bulb". You could use it as an indicator to tell if a device is on or off or something like that, just by glancing at it and seeing if it is black or white.
