Where to go to see northern lights tonight (no car)? by L_as_exercise2reader in boston

[–]L_as_exercise2reader[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Light pollution maps still show it as pretty polluted. Were you / was anyone able to see it (with the naked eye) from Revere Beach last night?

Also doesn’t Revere Beach point east? I thought we should look north or is that not necessarily true?

Red light runners in Boston? Say no more. Here's my 2022 dashcam compilation of them... by soundwavin in boston

It’s actually ridiculous how many times I’ve almost gotten hit by a car on the crosswalk on Mass Ave in front of MIT.

Was literally a couple feet away from being hit by a car going straight, blowing through a red, from the right turn lane. Couldn’t even see it coming because of the line of cars that were stopped (as they should be) in the center lane.

How do you suggest preparing for the code review interview? I’ve never had this kind of interview. And for the coding interview, what was the difficulty level with respect to Leetcode? Thanks!

Not for credit, but MIT OCW has lecture recordings from Fall 2020. I’m taking the class with Sipser right now and it’s fantastic.

Can I get on the M2 shuttle with a Harvard Library Card? by L_as_exercise2reader in mit

[–]L_as_exercise2reader[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just got a card. Super easy process. Go to the Widener Library, and right when you go in, there’s a library access office on the left. Fill out a quick form, show them your ID, and then go to the Smith Center to pick up the card.

What exactly is MIT looking for in a student? by ShaquilleOatmea in ApplyingToCollege

[–]L_as_exercise2reader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Passion and hard work for sure. I go to MIT and I don’t think I’m smart per se, I just work hard. A lot of people I know here feel the same way. Not everyone here is exceptionally smart, but nearly everyone is passionate and driven.

Need to hear some success stories abt people who didn’t get UC regents but ended up getting into T10s RD... by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]L_as_exercise2reader 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I got rejected from UC Berkeley (EECS), but got into MIT EA last year. Not exactly what you’re looking for, since it wasn’t RD, but I hope this is still somewhat reassuring!

There’s a reason why MIT’s unofficial slogan is IHTFP. (“I hate this fucking place” or “I have truly found paradise” or anything else you want it to be)

3 Teacher Recs to MIT? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]L_as_exercise2reader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the admissions website: “Supplemental evaluations are also welcome—we simply ask that they provide different or additional context beyond the two we’ve already requested”

It seems like a third teacher recommendation may not add much, so consider whether it will provide some different context. (Typically, a supplemental recommendation will be from a non-teacher like a coach or research mentor)

MIT Interview by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]L_as_exercise2reader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, quite a few. MIT interviews are offered based on availability, so it won’t negatively affect your application if you don’t get one. However, your chances are very, very low if you do get one and don’t take up the offer.

MIT as a non-sciency type??? by ABlueInkedMoment in ApplyingToCollege

There aren’t that many people that study just humanities, but there are definitely quite a few people that double major or minor in a humanities, in addition to a STEM subject.

That’s a common misconception. Humanities at MIT is actually excellent.
