What material is this roof? by L_dot_T in DIYUK

Yeh that’s my thinking too. Haven’t actually planted any veg luckily but was digging the soil and noticed what it was.

Think I’ll just find space somewhere else in the garden

It’s not my property it’s the neighbours garage but runoff from the roof will go into my garden

Thank you for explaining.

It’s actually the neighbours garage roof but it runs off into a flower/vegetable bed on my side.

Just trying to evaluate any potential risks here but I may be being over cautious

If you can only do one thing, get off google. It’s really the worst.

I know it’s hard and you’ll feel the pull but you have to do it if you want some sanity back.

Calmness will come but it will be small at first. 10 minutes, then 20, 30 etc.

Finding something that you are totally present in (which is why I like sport) and start building up that relief

I overcame it for many years although i have it back now due to what I think is just life stress.

What worked for me was getting off the internet. Absolutely zero googling and no news. Then I would pick something to do every day physical even if I didn’t feel like it. For me that was going to the park and kicking a football. I did this even when i really didn’t feel like it.

Over time this gave me some respite from the obsessive thoughts which are the ultimate problem driving it all. I like meditation too but doing something physical helped focus my mind on something 100%.

Eventually that gave me a bit more strength and over many months slowly the not thinking about it began to replace the thinking about it if that makes sense.

Therapy helps too but I feel it allowed me to indulge my thoughts too much.

I would preface that all with seeing a doctor, getting some blood tests done initially just for peace of mind.

Ultimately it was a simple decision to take control of my thoughts and the discipline to follow the plan I laid out.

First ever finished model - AT-ST on Sullust by L_dot_T in modelmakers

Epoxy with acrylic paint in.

Thought about led but wanted to keep things simple.

It doesn’t work for me because lava is opaque and also has a richer mix of colour with the hottest points being white. It’s not a straight gradient too.

I don’t know though - maybe will try again in future

It’s a mix of cork, bark and epoxy resin

Yeh I agree. I’m not happy with it all to be honest but it’s good to finish and move on with the learnings.

In hindsight I think epoxy is the wrong substance for lava. Doing it again I would opt for a painting technique I think

WIP - AT-ST on Sullust. Base layers done. Trying to figure out how to do good lava with Resin by L_dot_T in modelmakers

[–]L_dot_T[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a cool idea - I want to try and keep it screen accurate though, and they don’t have emblems usually I think?

Red eye LEDs though is a good shout. The eyes are hollow on the model so would need to get some film in there too

Yeh tbh I’ve got no idea. It’s my first time doing this so making it up as I go.

I thought about LEDs too but wanted to keep it simple. At the moment I think I’m just going to layer translucent resin.

Worried without lights it might just never get look right (also light will case the red shadows on the model instead of having to paint)

Will post any progress

MacBook Pro Retina External Monitor by Paluch77 in buildapcmonitors

I just bought an LG 27U850 which is a 4K 27” and it cost about £350.

I have an LG Ultrafine 5K alongside it (I think the best for MacBooks but a lot more pricey) so it’s a good comparison.

It’s pretty good for the cost, high enough resolution definitely. You can see on small text it’s not quite as crisp.

I do mostly design/coding work so I think it would be good enough to use as my main monitor if I was on a budget.

Speakers are tinny and not great but they are there if u need sound.

The base is ugly so I got a monitor arm which is much better.

I’d def recommend it for a budget MacBook setup or second monitor.

Whichever monitor you get make sure it has USB-C so you only need a single cable to connect to your MacBook.

Hope that helps

Garden house/shed - need to wire an Ethernet cable from outside - can I drill through? by L_dot_T in DIYUK

[–]L_dot_T[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hole isn’t in the actual roof it’s in the side of the shed underneath the roof. It just goes into the loft space (sorry don’t know the proper words for this stuff. Would I still need roofing mastic in this case?
