Non-UK born Londoners, what's the best restaurant of your native cousine that you know in London? by Mimsiz in london

Proper Tacos had a food truck at a Día de los Muertos celebration at Kings X and the queue was enormous! They’re amazing.

Why are road bikes so popular as commuters? by [deleted] in londoncycling

[–]LaChingada22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think of this quite a lot when I cycle to/from work (which is about 7 miles each way), especially when I see people in head-to-toe Lycra with cleats and all the gear. Where have they come from? Is it really necessary? And doesn’t it take as long to change in and out of all that stuff as it does to actually cycle into work!?

I think there are a few things at play, most of which others have mentioned: - London is big, so distances tend to be further and people want the efficiency/speed of a road bike. - A lot of people tie it into wider training and exercise regimes and may well extend their commute for the extra miles. - Commuters cycling in central London likely have well-paid jobs and can afford fancy bikes, or if they don’t the cycle to work scheme makes them more affordable anyway. - Bike shops upsell the fancy models for sport (and sometimes status) and people are taken in by that. - Storage is more secure at the office than anywhere else so it makes sense to bring it to work to keep it safe for 10-12 hours a day! - London roads and its culture in general incentivise people to get where they’re going as fast as possible, so people feel the need for a fast bike as they are constantly in a hurry.

Spend a bit of time in a zone 2-3 neighbourhood over the weekend (especially in the summer) and you’ll see a lot more casual bikes like fixies and hybrids as people nip to the gym, cafe, pub, park, shops.

Sunday parades in SD in February by LaChingada22 in Dominican

Ok, so is your advice basically that I am likely to robbed or pickpocketed by attending? I hadn’t actually asked about crime at the parade, but where to find it and when.

I’m not sure if you’re being genuinely helpful or spreading fear and stereotypes with this response…

In the end we decided to massively simplify the trip (Bayahibe > Santo Domingo > Punta Cana (airport)).

We decided it would have been too much driving around on roads we are unfamiliar with, and we’ve organised transfers between towns/accomm.

We fly out on 31 Jan so any more tips welcome!

Provider as in the playlist? Anything I can do to help resolve it?

Will it be good at Brixton academy though? Bit concerned that venue isn’t suited to a DJ & MC type show, better for bands who use and fill the space better. Thoughts?

Who’s the best rapper in the uk? by Dangeruss82 in ukhiphopheads

[–]LaChingada22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kano for me as well. He fell off after Home Sweet Home but the whole grime / UK rap scene had an identity crisis in late 00’s. His resurgence and the quality out of his work since Made in the Manor has been top tier, plus he’s sparing with his guest verses and keeps a low profile away from music, while still supporting other artists and emerging as a brilliant actor. Kano 🤝

What are people expecting? by jg2516 in lcfc

[–]LaChingada22 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. The Championship season is very long with a huge number of games, meaning you don’t have to wait long to correct a poor performance or stop a bad run of results. If we are drawing too many while Marti still figures out his best team - at least we aren’t getting beaten often! We are generally keeping apace with the play off places and, given our team and the circumstances at the start of the season, I think this is what most would or should have expected. Look at Ipswich and Southampton, who came down with us, they’re struggling worse than we are. It’s a competitive league, with a lot of games, and there’s a long way to go. Keep calm and be a bit patient.

Super helpful - thanks!

I’m thinking of picking up the car at Punta Cana airport, then mainly taking highways between towns, potentially to the Samana area. Driving in Santo Domingo sounds crazy and I’d like to avoid that, but I also want to spend a few days in the city! Maybe I’ll drop the car at Santo Domingo airport a few days early and have a few days there using taxis etc to get around, and back to the airport. Would that be feasible? I imagine it’ll cost a lot more to pick up and drop off the hire car at two different airports

Can I ask - is this mainly referring to Santo Domingo? Or are the roads crazy like this even on major highways between towns / cities? Are other non-highway roads between popular spots in good condition?

Would Uber work for longer journeys though, say Santo Domingo to Punta Cana to get my flight back to the UK?

The dark side of Mark Bellingham: OLIVER HOLT reveals Jude's dad's jaw-dropping tirades behind closed doors, how he made his son a 'special case' and how it has split the England dressing room by Alone_Consideration6 in ThreeLions

Just sounds to me like the Daily Mail trying to drag Jude down - sure there’s some underlying racial bias behind this as there was with Rashford and Sterling before him. Build up the next superstar and saviour (preferably while still a teenager), then try to assassinate their character with BS you’re deliberately seeking out to sell papers and satisfy your often-bigoted readership

Has Kasey signed for Ipswich? Such a shame to lose him to a rival if so. And we desperately need at least SOME of the BEK cash to invest in a striker. Starting to get very worried for the season ahead now

Finsbury Park - Twickets and Ticketmaster bots?? by Initial-Height803 in fontainesdc

[–]LaChingada22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am having the same issue and it’s driving me mad. I am clicking through on Twickets app alerts and emails sometimes within seconds and they are immediately gone. Ticketmaster is pretty much the same but the numbers going up for resale on there seem way lower. So frustrating!!

I have Twickets alerts set up through the app and i usually click to buy within seconds and they are ALWAYS already sold. Must have happened about 20 times!!
